I was wondering were everyone was. Last Wednesday went to do some banking locally and before I could ask the teller says I have some halves for you. She had $8 worth and 5 of them were 40%. An unexpected surprise.  |

I suggest that perhaps the holidays lead people that need money for spending on holiday gifts to take their piggy bank coins, wrap them up and deposit them.
Halves are especially going to be deposited because their value is higher than cents, nickels etc. Thus, one might expect to see an uptick in silver halves in January and February as a result of deposits of coins made in November and December.
It would be fascinating for those who are doing large volume box halves searching to keep track by month number of boxes searched (face value amount) and # of 40% and 90% silver found each month, number of skunks etc.

I don't do many boxes but I picked up 3 on Friday. Box # 1 skunk, Box #2 1 40% and Box #3 had 1 Proof and 5 40%.  |

Haven't been doing much hunting lately, but I bought a box yesterday and got 1 1967.
In the past few weeks, some 40 loose rolls also produced 2 more 40%ers.

Arby, are you finding many of the coins you've marked in the past? Does it appear the courier is using first-in, first-out for the boxes of halves you are receiving?

Wow @ 16 skunks in a row. Perhaps, as part of the Great American Coin Hunt, I need to come to your area and "salt" a few silver halves in local business :)
