Teller at my dump bank told me about the kid who came in with a bucket full of halves and large size dollars a few days ago. It is a grocery store bank so they wouldn't take them in there (none of the tellers know their coin counter takes halves). Too bad I missed that one, might have been a huge score!

Ok - We have been doing about $5000 worth of halves a week now, so I decided to post my finds of the week here.
-----------------

this weeks hauls included:
40%'s 38
90%'s 2
1 1990S
1 1982 George Washington

I'm going to post pics of the 1990S and the 1982. Opinions are welcome and encouraged. I don't know much about either - So, if you do, tell me more than you think I would want to know.

Todd

I've found several in that same condition from roll searching---at least 10. I've tried to sell them on ebay, but there isn't much interest in them. I think that the RedBook pricing is a little high, as these are MUCH more common than first thought---

So this is my first post. I've been collecting for about 1 month and it all started as follows: My grandfather passed away a few months ago and as I was cleaning out his closet I found an old school water jug filled with change. Next to this was a box (about the size of a brinks box) filled with what was obviously silver change. It dawned on me that he must have separated out any silver in his change for the last 30 years. I took all the change to the bank and the teller informed me to not cash in the silver, but to sell it to him. After thinking about it I decided to keep my grandfathers hobby alive and start searching for silver change. So that's what I've been doing. So far this year (2011) I've found:

40% JFK Halves = 35
90% JFK Halves = 6
90% JFK Proof = 1
90% Walking Liberty = 1
90% Dimes = 4

Just wanted to introduce myself and start posting. Additionally, I splurged and purchased a 2010 1oz. Gold Buffalo Proof. In summary, I think I'm hooked and believe my grandfathers collection is in good hands.

Welcome Jamessmith77,
That was a very considerate teller who counseled you not to cash in the silver although I wonder what kind of deal he was prepared to offer. 90% silver coins are trading for about 20 times face value right now.

You won't regret carrying on your grandfather's hobby. It might keep your memories of him fresh.

Great Story! You'll find great folks here on this site. Remember if you get in a cold streak, keep searching, silver is bound to find you soon enough.

I would reccomend skimming over this JFK thread. It is extremely exciting and encouraging to see what some folks have found!

I can't believe all of the shiny proofs I pulled from the two boxes this week! 1972-S, 1977-S and 1987-S. The mintage on these is low and I can't believe people dump them. Perhaps a sign of the times we are in.

Also pulled one each NIFC: 2002P, 2003P, 2003D, 2005P, 2006P

And last but not least one beautiful 1969-D silver! That's all for this week. Good luck all!
