What do you all find your average keeper percentage is?

I have just completed 1 month of serious searching (although my one month would be many of your one weekend).

My numbers are 5190 total coins, turning up 32 90% and 18 40%, with a success rate of .96%

If you throw out my only good score, the rate drops to .44%

Is this consistent with everyones findings?

I am not a new coin hunter, as I have known the value of keeping the 'pre-clad' coin in all forms since 1965! I used to roll hunt as a kid, and thought it would be fun again!

Also, anyone can see I am very small scale. I have never got more than 600 coins at once, as I have to keep recycling to have the cash necessary for this endeavor. I am going to pick up my first box on Friday, however. Looking forward to that!

One more question for possible discussion: Do you sell your finds for more cash to look at more coin, or hold onto them? I have been tempted, but I view each keeper as a hard won trophy, and that makes it hard to be realistic about its true value.

Maybe a drop in silver to about $10 per oz. would not be all bad!

I just called my bank and they said they come loose from the Feds and are $1000. Is this right?

Scott W, I can't help you out as to the percentages as I am somewhat new to this but I have gotten lucky with customer wrapped rolls(CWR's) 30 total 40%s and 4 total 90% out of about $1000 searched, and have been unlucky searching Brinks boxes so far, four complete boxes searched, found 2 40%.

I wonder if it has to do with the region you live in? For instance, I live in a sparcely populated area in the Pacific Northwest. I have done CWRs and machine rolls. If I throw out the 28 90%ers I found in CWR (which I am sure was somebody cashing in an old guys stuff) the rest of the results are about 50/50.

I am going to do a box a week for awhile. Later I will go to 2, and use 2 different banks that I know have different suppliers. I may get to do a little comparison shopping later on.

On another note, I have cleaned out all the local banks of halfs, except for the two that I dump at, and one that is someone elses dumping grounds.

I went to the 'huge' city op Walla Walla, and there were less than 10 rolls to be had downtown!

For those that get Brinks boxes:

Do your rolls come wrapped in paper or plastic?

Are your Brinks boxes sealed?
