Did they tell you anything about the customer who turned them in? Someone was desperate for money!

Got $245 of CWR today.

1 90%
6 40%
2 NIFC
2 Proof

The bad part is the teller asked me if I was with the guy that bought halves earlier in the day. It makes me wonder why he did not get them all and also how well he did.

I don't think I will get my boxes next week because of Monday being a holiday

Banks are open Monday. President's Day is a federal holiday that banks don't observe--

No postal service either---

So question for you guys, I found a 1974 without a mint mark and a solid silver cover edge and shinny like a proof. What is it? Also, found a 1973 D same solid silver edge and shinny like a proof. Is there any silver in these?

does it sound like silver when it is dropped? have you done the paper tissue test on it - silver will shine differently through the paper compared to regular coins. If you can post some pictures. I know someone found a old ball coin that was not silver but a foreign coin minted by the us mint.

They didn't make silver proofs until like 1992. Those are coins to throw back.

Nice finds FoolsGold. I have searched 8 boxes in the past few weeks, and came away with 1 Franklin and 3 40%ers. I had secretly hoped it would be better than that, but I am grateful for any silver.

I have also done 8 boxes of dimes, and found 8 silver Rosies out of them.

I live in a rural area that is sparsely populated. I have had better luck with CWR, but I exhausted the supply.

It would be interesting to find out other peoples realistic expectations for success, and compare it to the area they live in.

Russ789:

Regarding Silver Proofs, prior to the 1990's, after the 1970S Proof which is also 40% silver, the US Mint made a Silver Uncirculated and a Clad Proof and Silver Proof for the Bi-Cenn 1776-1976.

A lot of these were melted in 1982 so no one really knows how many are still in circulation today, but I'm lucky in that I have found 1-Bi-Cenn 40% Silver Uncir while roll searching.

Also, a few 1971D and 1977D were struck in Silver Clad by mistake- big bucks if you ever find one of them!

Happy Hunting!

That amount surpassed my expectations, I'm usually happy to get one or two 40% in a $500 box, anything over that is a bonus.
As for the area I live in it is very rural and I have a hard time finding CWR. Though I think its more of a wrong place wrong time thing.

Today, I asked the teller if she had any halves and she said she had one. It turned out to be a 1968-D, my first mintmarked 40% from circulation, as well as my first 1968 half from circulation.
