I have seen many copper clad coins that have a pure silver looking edge with no copper layer showing through. These are coins that someone for some reason had the coin chrome plated. Almost 100% chance that is what your coin is---plated. |

Oh boy was I incredibly lucky today...
I had planned on searching through $500 in quarters today but at the first bank I went to, I asked if they had any halves and the teller said she had two rolls of them. I ask her to open one of the ends of one roll and tell me the date and she said "1953." I knew that there was a Franklin in there, so I decided to buy both rolls. When I opened them up, I felt like a kid in a candy store:
Out of $20 in halves, I found:
*7 40% (Dates were 1967, 1968-D, and 1969-D)
*1 1964 Kennedy
And, get this...
*21 Franklins! I found a 1949, 1949-D, 1950-D, 1951, 1951-D, 1951-S, 1952, 1952-D, 1953, and 1953-S in there. Some of them are quite beat up, but finding this much silver for face is truly astonishing.

Also, this makes up for a missed opportunity from a month ago. At another bank I go to, they told me a man tried to deposit $5 in Walking Liberty halves, but they refused them because they never saw them before. They said if I was there 20 minutes before I arrived, I would have authenticated them and either would have bought them for face or made the man an offer. |

It's plated. I find one every few boxes or so - very annoying. If you really think it's silver you should be able to hear the difference if you do the "drop" test (I prefer to flip them myself). Forget the tissue thing. It's a completely worthless test.

I never thought of giving them a flip. I see where you would get that sound by doing so. Not a bad idea!
I was able to go through 2 boxes tonight. There was 1 1967, 4 NIFC's and a 1978s that had a gold tint to it.

From different teller's trays, I found two 40% halves (1968-D and 1969-D) and a 1987-S proof.
