Nice James!

I got a record box for myself. Not in a good way, though.

7 NIFC, including the first 2010 I have seen. I have been saving every one, and have about 30. It's time for catch and release on these bad boys.

There were 80 coins someone had marked; some coins have been marked 2 or 3 times. There is one guy that is the most prolific, and marks only Bicentennials with a blue M on the face. His accounted for 60+. I have been seeing this mark since I began, but not in this number.

I am glad to see some are getting what we all pay admission to see, as I am not!!

Made it through my second box tonight.

There were only 45 marked up coins. Either the same guy is using a different initial on the Bicentennials, or there is a copycat. It's the same color ink, same place, just a different initial.

There is also a new guy that showed up in this box, and he marks only 1974D. He is a pretty witty fellow, however. On one coin he wrote: "Could be harmful if swallowed."

no NIFC. NO SILVER. 4 boxes this week earned me a lone 1967.

Since I seem to be talking to myself, I must ask myself if the results are worthwhile.

This past month I have gone through 12 boxes of halfs, and found 1 90%er and 4 40%. 5 coins in 12 boxes.

The bank I started with has the only boxes producing. I found all the keepers in 8 of their boxes, which would be an acceptable success rate. They are from 2 different suppliers: The keepers come from a flat box with yellow and white String and Son wrappers, and the other bank supplies the double stacked black and white wrappers.

I am thinking I will play along for one or two more months as I am doing now, 2 per week from each source. If that trend bears out, I will drop the second bank and double my order from the original supplier. If the second supplier begins to produce I will leave things as they are.

On another note, there is a BOA in town that I have got a few rolls from, and they produced very well. I could always open an account there, and see how that runs.

I realize I am new on here, and you likely view me as a party crasher. I have held an interest in old coin ever since I was a little guy, but only now have the means to do this. If silver dropped to $1.97 per oz I would still seek it out, now that I am able.

You are hardly a party crasher scott w. My only advice to you is, less is more. Build up strong relationships at your buy bank. It may seem like a good idea to order a bunch of boxes from one location but they can cut you off whenever they please. You may be the customer but they are your key to your hobby. Its is better to drive the extra miles to different branches than to ruin it for your self and others by over doing it at one location.

I personally drive to three different locations for a total of six boxes. I learned the hard way by ordering 8 boxes from one location two consecutive weeks before I was cut off.

That is a point well taken, Hybes. Right now both banks that order for me do so cheerfully. I know those tellers don't like to horse around two boxes. I can imagine their demeanor if they were toting eight of them!

Things are good for me right now on both ends. I have to travel 80 or so miles round trip to dump, but one location is a 24/7 casino. Those people are thankful for something to break up the monotony at midnight on a Sunday night!

I guess I better leave well enough alone and wait until it's my turn for one of those dream boxes!

Scott.

what did those 74-D marks look like? I'm curious. I had seen a few myself. the 74-d's I get are marked only on the reverse and in orange sharpie..

as far as the box situation.. I have been getting some from chase and dumping at another chase branch. thing is, this past week I received one of my own marked coins back! so I know that if you dump the coins at the same name bank, they will all seem to go to the same location. not sure what your situation is like, but if you buy from one name, dump at another...

Went through the first of my 2 boxes (I do too a week so as to not drive the wife crazy) and got 1 64 and 3 NIFC. Hopefully box 2 will be at least as good!

There are a lot of searchers around here. I regularly find coins marked by the same guys even when I source in from different banks and carriers. There's red nail polish guy (these look like really old dumps), orange dot in the "o" guy, purple dot on the reverse of bicentennials guy, black slash through the date guy, weird numbers guy, and outline JFKs head guy. I only make my mark on already marked coins and I haven't seen one back yet. I'm amazed I ever find any silver at all, but there does seem to be a steady trickle into the banks.

SDcoinguy,

This new guy is using an aqua Sharpie to mark just above the date. There were a few marked on the back with the same color pen. I have seen other marks of these coins by other people as well. I don't mind the 74D getting marked, as it saves me getting out the magnifier!

I am picking up at two different name banks, and dumping at one of these chains branches in a town about 40 miles away. I also dump at the casino, which is in the same town as my other dump spot.

The graffiti is getting worse all of the time. I live in a sparsely populated area of Northeast Oregon/Southeast Washington, so this 'artwork' is probably not as prevalent as it would be in a metro area. Unfortunately, neither is circulating silver.

I will turn something good up one day. I found a Franklin last week; maybe a Walker is just around the corner for me.
