Wikipedia says the mint had a two year supply in 1987 so they only minted enough for the mint sets. Similar quotes are found online for the 1970D as well. Not sure how reliable the sources are, but it sounds like a reasonable explanation. Presumably the 1973 Ike and 1981 Suzy B weren't released for the same reasons.

Wow, a 20 box skunk, and a 7 box skunk. Ouch.
My skunk streak is still alive at 6. You guys skunks probably sting more, because you are actually used to finding something!

Out of $420 in CWR I got 4 40% yesterday.

I searched 5 boxes this week. Results were not as good as last week, but I am thankful to find silver.
5 boxes yielded: 1 90% (64P) and 7 40%'s. Of those boxes, two were skunks. 1 had the 90% only, 1 had 5 40%'s and 1 had 2 40%'s. All done until next week.
Also, as I told you guys, I sold $200 face in 40% Kennedys this week. I am using the proceeds to buy Morgan/Peace Dollars. Yesterday, I bought a 78S and 79S Morgan both in F/VF condition from the local coin shop. I have also bought some Morgan/Peace from Indian on this forum. There is a big coin show coming to town at the end of the month, and I hope to go and pick up some CC Morgans. Until next week.

3 boxes this week (one more to go) have given up 2 Franklins and 2 40%. Both of the Franklins were on roll ends too. 6 or so NIFC between the two boxes including an 87D. That's my second 87D so far which is a little frustrating because I am trying to complete the set from circulation :) I like to imagine there's a roll hunter in the Chicago area with two 87P's who feels the same way!
I also found a few coins with my mark on them (I only mark already marked coins, fyi) so I think I need to start dumping further away.

Hey Ferdyboy again thanks for the great information, I cant wait to get some real large quantities to go through and also again closing with a question......I have found some of those S mints you mentioned to, can you tell me how to know what is silver and what is not, and are there any S mints worth more than the NIEC issues in general, one to keep my eye out for?

Found four proofs in one box, all very nice condition. I'm finding more and more of them as people break apart proof sets to melt the silver.

The only "S" mint marks that could (or might be) silver other than the 1964-1970s are the 1976-S Bicentennial, and the 1992-2010-S's. You can usually just tell them from clads because they won't have a copper layer on the edge---most of the time that is--sometimes they have a dark grayish layer next to the silver edge. The only sure fire way to confirm is by weighing them on a gram scale, but generally you don't need one. They will almost always have a siver edge without copper and will sound like "tink" when you drop it on a hard surface, rather than the clad's more "clank". Hope this helps--- Edited by Ferdyboy

My skunk streak is dead at 6.
Today's box looked to make it 7 in a row, but I found a '64 in the second to last roll! I was sure happy to see it.
Now I hope to run up a streak of non-stinkers.

So my mom told me she had a bunch of halves that her late father gave her a few months back and that I could have them. She goes upstairs and brings back a half roll...of silver eagles. So she splits the eagles between myself and my sister. We finish divying up the eagles and notice a small bunch of tissue at the bottom. We open it up and there are 4 1981 Kurgerrrands. So I get myself two 1oz Kurgerrands.  |
