Sweet gravy man. That's quite the haul from 50 bucks.
Just finished another box, a 1973 proof that has been through heck (it's not silver either), and three mutants. I've started counting the mutants (the coins that are so F'd up that you can hardly tell what they are), since I've not found much of anything. Last 10 or 15 boxes and still just the 1 1968 silver and a bunch of garbage.
I find it really odd my first box was ssssoooooo good, followed by basically 1 40% every 10 or so boxes. Same thing is happening to my dad: His first box had 18 40% coins, and he's just finished his 5th box and hasn't found anything since. Just weird that the first would be sooooo loaded for both of us.

Hey there guys, been searching on this site for a little while now, this particular area caught my interest though. I bought $500 today a box from Bank of America and well didnt get lucky. I noticed right away a lot of them had the dreaded black dots on the coins which I guess as most of you believe means they have already been searched through already. Tons of 71s and Bicentenails. Now I have 500 worth laying on my carpet floor lol. Oh Well, in a few months time I am gettin $25,000 inheritence due to my parents deaths a while back. I think ill buy between 5 to 10,000 in these half dollars, but I wonder is this becoming a lost cause at this point, has the silver dried up I notice some people still find them, or did I just get bad luck this time through, anyone really know? let me know please thanks.

I think the general consensus is that boxes have dried up to the point where most are skunks or 1 or couple silver. Asking tellers is probably a better bet now although that too is already unprofitable with all the driving you'll have to do. I dunno though, people are claiming amazing finds that don't jibe enough that I want at least one or two shots.

If your searching to make money, your probally gonna waste your time unless you get lucky. With picking up/dumping costs rising (gas), you'll be lucky to make minimum wage IMO. Halves are really picked though now (I've done this since silver was $8/oz), I used to get 10-20 coin avg per box....you can see its not that anymore. Too many people jumped on the bandwagon, and its all (mostly) dried up. Its not like there making anymore silver...

Yeah true, I agree. I think ill probably still try it though a few times. Its rediculous here though in michigan gas is averaging 4.26 a gallon was looking for other ways to make some money. I see a lot of people get nice finds once in a while though.

Did another 4 Boxes. Nothing at all, zilch... However all may not be lost.
There was one 1976 Bicentennial that caught my eye. I think its silver, it has the S mint mark. Still hard to tell but it weighs in at 11.7g? Maybe I'm confusing myself to think there would never be a Silver bicentennial in circ. Has anyone else ever found one from CRH?

I have been roll searching for 15 or so years and I would agree that in the last 6-8 months everything has dried up. If you are trying to make money I would look for a second job or something because you will not make any money when it's all said and done. I think you will see that the hassle you will get trying to get rid of your halfs just isn't worth it. If your not roll searching as a hobby your not going to like the results.

Recent Silver prices aren't helping matters. Its a one way ratchet, the silver prices rise, silver is taken out...when silver crashes unfortunately for roll hunters its not like the PM hounds are going to chuck it back into circulation. So the only thing to do is to outright buy the now cheap silver which is nowhere near as fun. You'll just have to settle for dreaming about finding that solid 64 or ordering those half dollars that turns out to be a monster box of platinum eagles.

I searched 6 boxes over the last 2 days. Found 6 40%'s. Two more to go today and tomorrow. I agree that things are now slower than they were even a month or two ago. I expect as silver falls and people find less and less silver, less people will search. It is a supply/demand thing - as price falls so does the incentive. Less searchers mean more to be found.
This is definately not a money maker... I use the 40%'s to finance new coins for the collection. It keeps the wife happy that I spend less of our money on coins.

I went to my bank yesterday to pick up my 1 box of halves. I was informed that they are no longer going to be ordering half
dollars becasue too many people were ordiering boxes now. I talked to the teller for awhile and he admitted that it was
the guy who was ordering the 6 boxes at a time that ruined it for everyone. Like I said before stay under the radar
and they won't bother you. This guy ruined it for everyone else. I will find another bank and open an account. By the way no silver again.

Two boxes today and boy I am doing the silver dance !     17 - 90% 7 - 40% Included in the 90%'ers I got.. 9 64's 5 Franklins 3 Walking Libertys The silver is still out there, you just gotta be patient and not over do it. On a side note, one of my dump banks informed me I cannot return bulk coinage to them anymore. They only see me once every month and a half, so it's not like I overload them. I return in intervals of $1000 and I do a cycle between 6, well now 5 banks. Oh, and I forgot to add that yesterday was my birthday, so today's find was like a nice birthday gift from my bank!
