Quote: Everyone has the same opportunity to go coin roll hunting. All they need is a bank account. It would be one thing if only select people were able to get bank boxes, but that isn't the case. But that IS the case. Everyone does NOT have the same opportunity. You state that "All you need is a bank account." Doesn't there have to be something in it? What about the $500 it takes to buy the box? Where does that come from? This magical bank account that you don't need money in? I know I normally don't have $500 just kicking around. Alot of people are living from paycheck to paycheck. Or should I say, unemployment/welfare check to unemployment/welfare check. I have recently roll searched 2 boxes, but this is the first time in the last few years that I have been able to do it. Why? Not because I didn't have a bank account. It's because I didn't have that $500 you seem to think isn't required.

Everyone has the opportunity to coin roll hunt. Not everyone has the means with which to roll hunt as much as they want. Those are two different things.

Ken, even someone on unemployment or a fixed income can afford a $25 dollar box of Lincoln pennies. That is all it takes to get started.

Quote: Ken, even someone on unemployment or a fixed income can afford a $25 dollar box of Lincoln pennies But we are not talking about pennies here. Quote: Everyone has the opportunity to coin roll hunt. Not everyone has the means with which to roll hunt as much as they want. Those are two different things. The same opportunity to roll search in general yes. I normally search pennies and only recently nickels. But to roll search halves, like this thread is about, it requires $500 a box. And without the "means", $500, there is no opportunity.

Actually, to roll hunt halves you need $10 for a roll. Many of my finds come from tellers where I buy lessthan $20 worth. As for dumping andkilling the golden goose, you all are right we are eventually going to kill searching. But, unilaterally not searching will not fix the issue. If there was a way for every roll searcher to limit hunting I would be all for it. Dont know how to make that happen though.

Quote: Nobis1: If there was a way for every roll searcher to limit hunting I would be all for it. Dont know how to make that happen though. but what about Quote: Nobis1: 6 boxes this week. 2 40% silver. Again silver halves drying up.
Come on. 6 boxes really? Do you get that many when you search pennies? Quote: Nobis1: If there was a way for every roll searcher to limit hunting I would be all for it. Dont know how to make that happen though. Try getting just one box at a time for a start. Quote: Actually, to roll hunt halves you need $10 for a roll. Many of my finds come from tellers where I buy less than $20 worth. But with gas over $4 a gallon, I am not going to make a special trip into town, (20 minutes one way), for one roll. Actually, I did try it once. Between all the tellers, they only came up with $8.50 worth of halves. Not even a full roll. And I've asked since and the only way to get a roll from my bank is to buy the box.

It is very true about halves. Tellers really don't have a roll to buy. You have to order a box ($500) to get any. You may be lucky and happen to go to the bank after someone deposits them and exchange money for a roll or 2 but otherwise it's a box of $500.

With the utmost respect I hope that those ordering many boxes a week scale back. If not for others at least for their own interests since they'll get cut off just like everyone else if they push things too far.

What this comes down to is Nick is a sore loser. Go take your whining elsewhere. I have accounts at many banks including a local bank. They order 10 boxes for me every 2 weeks and the branch manager is happy to do so. You keep enough money at a bank and they will do whatever you want. For last weeks order I requested 12 boxes of halves and a $1,000 FED bag of Ikes. They not only ordered the 12 boxes of halves but 2 bags of Ikes for me! Oh and for the status of the 12 boxes: 11-40% 2-90% Including this walker:

Ken - Respectfully, we will have to agree to disagree, but I think you missed my point. Everyone else in my area is searching lots of boxes. If I unilaterally reduce/stop hunting then I simply limit my own finds and the others will kill this all the same. Further, my point was that if there was something that limited the number of boxes all roll hunters could get, I would be all for it (in other words, like a hunting season) I did search 6 boxes last week and either 6 or 8 the week before. Because it is summer, and because of the steep drop off, I am going to slow to 2-3 boxes per week. I also search dimes and pennies, but I will not be cutting those back. You also show how many I found with 6 boxes ( 2 40%s). My hope is that like everything else, the market will act to slow hunting of halves. The more people pull few/no coins, the less they will search. Everyone will benefit, including me.
Phil - I agree with you. I prefer pennies too. They are more fun, and you find more.

Quote: The more people pull few/no coins, the less they will search. Everyone will benefit, including me What about those of us trying to put together sets? Pulling few or no coins doesn't seem beneficial to me.
