Pretty mediocre couple weeks compared to the previous two. The one bright silver spot was my first franklin. Somebody obviously thought it would be a laugh to color the bell soda orange. Is it best to just leave the paint and the gunk on the face side where it is or is there a good way to remove it?

I don't think that bell is "NT." Congrats on your first Frankie. We take them as we find them. See if an acetone soak will loosen up some of that color. It works on nail polish; it just might. Pick up the acetone at most drug stores. Get the 100% Pure type (around $5 for a large bottle).

Quote: Here are the basic principles: Big banks have central vaults at an armored carrier. They keep certain levels of money at those vaults. When it runs low, the armored carrier brings in more from the FED. When it runs high, it gets taken to the FED. However, if a lot of people are dumping in your area, then the branch will send the halves to their central vault. If you order from the same bank in the area then you will most likely get the dump. Make sense? So, again, it doesn't matter if you get boxes or bags! It's all about luck, period! Great insider information, Russ. It's not every day we get a glimpse into that.

We're 0 for 6 on silver, now, but on the last box we at least got a decent clad proof and a Yugoslavia 10 Dinar. Hope that's a sign the storm is weakening...

Well, I am checking banks on the bags thing. I have two more boxes coming into a BOA and one sitting waiting at another bank. Hopefully we will get something good out of those.

As someone alluded to earlier bags for myself (your results may vary) typically are better in the area I am in. I have never really hit it big with a box. Granted that I dont search them anymore because they got so bad so I have been sticking with bags. Bags off of the coin counter are the best ones. No tellers cherry pick them. Having that direct supply of halves off the coin counter is what makes the difference. I have found over 140 silvers in a $1k bag while only finding about 15-20 in a $500 box. I will say that I do get into streaks where I am clearly searching another coin hunters dumps with the bags. I have even confirmed it with another searcher 100 miles away from me that I was getting his dump bags. Thank God he has quit searching for now and I am starting to get into some of the bottom bags of the pallet.
Again this week got a nice $1k bag... it was my fathers day supprise.
54 - 40% 17 - 90% Kens 2 - Franks 2 - 1999 S clad proofs $1.10 in extra change

AGC... awesome! I wish banks in my area had coin counting machines.. one thing I am curious about, when you get bags of halves from the coin counters, I am assuming that one must be alerted when the bag is filled with 1k of halves. or you must ask every time you go? I know for me, with CHASE. the only time you get bags is when the tellers accumulate 1k or $500 in one denomination, you have to be in the right place at the right time, know when they ship/deliver etc.. which I know. is it similar with coin counters? I totally agree as well to the fact that they are completely untouched by tellers. major score for the coin hunter. =)

Agcoinhunter is right about bags , but box can have silver also it just depends in wich banks you get them from ! I finaly solve the big puzzle and I dont gonna say only because I cant prove it yet . Im on a 10 boxes skunked streak and if I'm right about my gameplan I ll find some silver on my today's box , I'm preaty sure I finaly understand the whole system ! None of my banks can give me bags but I think you can also hit the silver vain on boxes , it can be not as good as the bags but yes it is possible to find good stuff on boxes !

in my opinion, if you find a bank that has tellers that do not pull silver AT ALL, then boxes will yield stuff. but that is depending that people bring it in TO THE BANKS...

I have searched 3 bags in the past month and came up with no silver at all! Found on NIFC 2003. I searched 1 box a couple of nights ago and got 5 40% and 1 90%.

dan, my answer for you is :
probably getting someone's dump. but that depends where the bags come from: accumulated from tellers, or coin counter.

The bags didn't come from my bank. They ordered them in for me. It took a week to get them. I know better than to get halves from the bank that I usually do business with. Pretty much all their tellers and vault employees search also.
I just found a different local bank that set me up to receive 2 boxes of halves, 2 boxes of dimes, and 2 boxes of nickels every Thursday. I am very happy that I could finally find a bank to do it for me.

so here is my report for my 1st box on my new theory ! 3x64,65,3x68D,53 frank,1776-1976 S bicentenial proof,1984S proof,1973S proof ,1967 panama half and 2 more foreign coins = 1917 from france and 1907 from haiti . The 2 are such odds for half rolls because the french is a hair bigger then a half dollar and the haiti coin is lil smaller but I take it ! I knew there was a reason why I was not finding any silver on my last 18 boxes, and I can tell you that I would not find even if I searched 100 more ! Searching halves is totally different then any other denomination because of the miners , you just have to think and you ll find out a way to dodge the many thousands of coins they search every week . The only marked coin I found on this box is a 1973S proof that you see on the pics , I also found a 1988P that looks been struck in a proof planchet . I have 2 more boxes coming next week and if it proves I'm right I ll spread the system of searching to all my friends coin collectors this way we ll save as many silver halves we can from been melted to turn it in spoons forks and ear rings !

i am very very curious as to what your theory is. I hope you get great results so you can share! I don't want these bad boys being melted :( or saved but non-coin collectors.
