Russ, that was far from the dumbest question ever. And yes, there IS a difference. I have gone through 10's of thousands of dollars of halves and not once found a Walker or Barber. Virtually all the folks posting results from bags do find those.
As for being secretive. I am NOT asking the exact branch you get them from. I am simply asking is it BOA, PNC, a local bank, that kind of thing. I am not stupid. I would never reveal an exact location I get great fossils from, but I would certainly say what formation I got them from.
Trust me, I am not going to drive to New Jersey or fly to some far location so you dont have to worry about us raiding your turf.

My bank deals with loomis and they get the half dollars by the bag. I have just now started to hit some good finds. I bust my hump to find this stuff. I was going to give up on the bag deal cause I went threw 30 bags and only found half a roll of silver. I was having better luck finding silver in rolls and teller trays and bank drive thrus. I finally got my hands on that right bag and found 102.50 silver and have found silver in all the bags. I have ordered since its nothing but luck. I hunt for old coins. I love it when you find an old silver peace. I found a 1910 barber the other day in a bag, and it blew me away and yes when I go through bags I do find trash and junk in them and car wash tokens. I just got lucky and found a bank that orders bags and tried to stick with it. I order 4 bags a week and when I dont find anything in them I go out looking for looe coins or rolled half dollars. I even look for dimes and quarters even though they a pain to look for the quarters. Nice find to everyone

Here are the basic principles: Big banks have central vaults at an armored carrier. They keep certain levels of money at those vaults. When it runs low, the armored carrier brings in more from the FED. When it runs high, it gets taken to the FED. However, if a lot of people are dumping in your area, then the branch will send the halves to their central vault. If you order from the same bank in the area then you will most likely get the dump. Make sense? So, again, it doesn't matter if you get boxes or bags! It's all about luck, period!

bags or boxes, no difference... the difference is.... ready for it?...
the tellers. before coins go to the boxes or bags, they have to come from the teller, coin counting machine or any other way... I guarantee that bags/boxes that come from coin counting machines have more silver becuase they dont see the tellers hands. most tellers now KNOW what silver looks like. so the chance that you have more or less silver in bags or boxes is because of last teller or person that sends it out. the people that get these monster loads, their bags probably do not see a teller. at CHASE, when ever they get halves, loose or boxed, they have to dump em into a bag and send it out.. if your lucky, ON THE DAY OF SHIPMENT is the only day you can find these bags of coins.. dimes, pennies etc...
the other places that do bags, I dont know how they accumulate them other than from a machine or tellers that have to amass $1000 before shipping out.. the only time you can find bags in my area, dealing with CHASE only, is when bank/teller has accumulated $500/$1000 in which ever denomination. first they have to dump the rolled coin in these bags before they ship them out...
now, I am sure theere are bags that are not done this way. like I said, probably with machines so tellers dont/ or cant look through them.. they just go straight out and the lucky few who have connections can snag them up before they get processed...
pesky tellers.. oh yea AND it is luck.. did grandma dump off her savings or little jonny raid his dads collection? THAT is a huge factor as well..
i hope this clears things up.

But here is the problem with the bags vs boxes. 2 boxes are simply 1 bag rolled up. I have a local bank by me that orders from the FED. I must order in $1000 increments. But, I get them in boxes. Why? Because the armored carrier gets them from the FED, cracks the bags open, and then rolls them up. So, with that being said, which is better? Neither, it's the same. When you understand how the system works you see why neither is better than the other.

I don see anybody whinng here if you are talking to me 90percent !. I'm happy with my boxes but I'm thinking in really find out about bags and tell everybody about in here also on the coin talk and treasurenet where I'm a member as well this way all the coin collectors will start to search bags so more silver halves will be saved from melt to pay bills of some greed and the future generation of collector ll be able to know a silver for real and not only by pics duo the miners ! What about that ?! Is just the truth , you have your oponion and I have mine and I'm happy with that ; and please dont quote me or try to start a discussion because we are not going to change each other' way of thinking ok! I just didnt liked the answer the other member got when he asked about halves and if was not me who you said was crying dont even bather !...
Btw to the other member who wonder about about bags just try to open a busines account , what about that ?! Now someone saying something that ones have more money then others and who's not I just think is childsh and desrespectfull because we are not here trying to make a measure of who is rich or poor . Ee are here for pleasure of the hobby but if if you have so much money why are you spending all your time driving all day long looking for halves to try to make couple box ? I think you just made a fool of your self !.
My appologies fir all members who are reading my post now but I just could not hold my self with such stupid and ignorant comments !

smokeriderdon;
It's not the Out of Staters like yourself that I'm concerned about, it's the other In State N.J. residents etc that surf/read these forums etc that I'm not about to reveal any trade secrets.
In only finding Walkers/Barbers etc in bags, not in my case, I've found numerous Walkers and double digit Barber Halfs in boxes in the past 2 years.
Boxes/bags, it's still all luck of the draw (IMHO)
Just found a 1909P Barber Half that I posted pics of 2 weeks ago on this thread.
Good luck with your hunting!
Chuck.
