I was excited to hear that my local bank had $500 in halves sitting in the vault. I was not so excited when I realized that they were all hand rolled and they all had some dude's initials on them. I picked up 4 rolls anyway just as a hail mary case. No silver, but maybe I'll grab the others just in case....

It's hard to leave rolls behind because you know those will be the good ones.

I agree about rolls in general, but IME $500 in rolls is a dumped box.

nice walkers and franklins
Gonna get back into boxes of halves...Also gonna order more then one at a time. When I was only doing one a lot of times I was getting someones dumped boxes.
Hopefully if I get 2 boxes I will get some silver again.
I struck it pretty well when I started, but it died off after a while
Lets see how my luck turns when I start this back up
Wish me luck

Retraced my steps to investigate the vaults. Found 1 40%. Did however find 2 40's and a 64' near my dump bank. Payed for gas.

VACookey did a most of a box and got 3 Franklins and a Walker. She left me like 20 rolls. The twenty rolls that were virtually all marked coins of course.

Wanna do the trick? Highlight for instructions:

Make this stack:

Mexican side
Obverse of half
Small coin (I like using a scalloped Israel coin, or a Chinese cash)

"I have two coins, this brown Mexican coin, and a half dollar. As you can see, the Mexican coin is slightly smaller. In fact, if I put the half on top (move Mexican coin to the bottom), the half completely covers it.

(Swirl half over Mexican coin, proving half is solid--the small coin prevents them from going together).

"Put your hand out, palm down." (Using both hands, slide the small coin out, and snap the other two together--their hand hides the move--give them the new two-coin stack)

"Make a fist, move both hands behind your back, and put one in each. You can tell which is which, right? The half dollar is larger, don't open that fist, just bring it in front. Now open it palm up (show them and everyone both sides of the two-part half)

"So now the coin in your other hand is?" (the Mexican coin, brown coin, whatever they call it)

"Open your hand" (small coin appears) did you do with my Mexican coin? (if you're dealing with kids, act like they're in big trouble for "stealing" your coin, or give them the small coin. At a party, give each kid a different forn coin, and the birthday kid a SBA.)

Got my Loomis box today. Someone had written "Same rolls as last week" and drawn a smiley face on the bottom of the box. I found a nice 1981-S proof, several NIFC and two 1968-D. I am upping it to two boxes starting next week.

Stopped at a productive small-town bank that I haven't checked in a month. $8.50 loose was all Bicentennial. A CWR gave up two 1968-D's.

wow, I have done pennies back in the 80-90's. But this looks like I might have some fun and luck. I guess I will give it a try next week on my day off. I will post my results!

Two boxes a couple of weeks ago, nothing, two boxes two weeks ago, nothing. Two boxes last week, 87 proof, 1967, and a 1964. Barely worth the effort..

I want to go open accounts at these smaller community banks, but I just don't know, so much driving around.

^ For me, this is worthwhile (financially) only because I am able to do the pickups and dumps at banks which I would drive past in my normal routine. Of course I get satisfaction beyond the financial reward, and that has to also be considered.

6 boxes this week = 0 silver halves. Rough dumping when you find nothing...

But, here are last week's finds. I finally found a computer that allowed me to download.

Nice to see those nobis!

$2.50 in tray halves yielded one 1985-S really worn though. My first proof half from circ!
