Bradford, some banks are friendlier than others. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't give out their halves. This half hunting is getting more popular,
because alot of times they say someone was already here and bought all the halves.

I have noticed, I was just scared to admit I was a collector and hunting for the silver, did not know if that would cause the bank to not want to order my boxes.

Thanks

I feel ya.

I never know what to say when I walk into a bank that I don't have an account at.

"Hi, do you happen to have any half dollars?"
"Hi, I'm a coin collector, and..."
"Hi, do you have any half dollars you'd like to get rid of?"

I also don't really want to alert the teller, as they may begin to
take them all for themselves.

Would love to hear from others what you say when you approach the teller.

I usually just ask "Do you or any other tellers have any half dollars I can buy?" and that seems to do the trick. I've been asked once if I have an account, but more times than not they don't have any halves.

Anyone else find it funny that people are actually paying $16-20 per roll of unsearched halves on ebay?

I have been thinking very long and hard about listing some rolls on ebay just to see what happens.

Was in a Wells a couple of months ago and asked for halves. The teller told me someone had just brought in a bunch of them but a teller bought them all.

Now, two months later, I'm in the Wells across town asking for halves, and the teller says we don't get them too often. But, a couple of months ago at the other branch, someone brought in a bunch of rolls. A teller bought them all and they turned out to be silver so she cashed them in for $1,600.

Grrrr....so close!

That is why I like roll searching nickels so much, may not be finding a lot of silver but always finding at least one keeper per roll.

Went through two boxes today with some interesting finds:

Box 1 -

(2) 64 90%'ers
(4) 40%'ers, 2-66's, 67, 68

PLUS the Following Bonus items:

1 George W Bush Presidental Library token
1 "un peso" from Mexico
and 1 (yes, believe it or not) plastic guitar pic!

bet no one's ever found a guitar pick before!

Box 2:

6 proofs;

69-S
71-D
72-S
84-S
86-S
95-D

They don't all look like proofs in the pic, but that is due to my lack of photographic skills, all have frosted images and mirrored background.

I have been saving proofs found in roll searching, are they worth it? they are no longer proof, some at best are AU, others XF
