JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Four Loomis boxes. One roll was clearly short by one coin. One roll had a penny and one had a quarter. Shorted three coins, $1.24. No big deal but I had not encountered this many shorted rolls in 4 boxes before.

Hokykid, My experience has been mixed as far as which courier has the best coins. And CWR will be hit and miss but I (and most others) generally have better luck with lose or cwr than boxes/bags. The courier debate is probably important on a regional level but not national. I think it depends on if casino's use the same courier in the same region. It depends on whether you buy bags or boxes. In my opinion, in the Tulsa area, boxes from brinks are best. I've been through several $1000 brinks bags and not found a single coin worth keeping...not silver, BU, NIFC, or proof. I believe the Brinks bags in Tulsa are just recycled casino chip/coins.

I like to encourage people to give specific, regional information when they post finds. Where are you located? Bags or boxes? Brinks or Loomis? Local or National Bank? All are important questions but what's good for me (in Tulsa) may not be good info for people in California.

I stopped at 22 banks today and picked up $280 in rolls and $48 from teller trays. The amount was way below normal for me. A lot of banks had 1-3 coins total and only two banks had $100. I ended up with a 1990 S proof from the loose change and a 1965 from an unopened Brinks roll.

I want to do halves again so bad, but not bank in my are will order so I have to do cwr which don't come in often because I did all the old boxes they had.

First time I found no silver since I started.
No proofs either, but a 2003, 2007's, a 2010, and lots of other
nice NIFC's.

Here's the funny thing: it seemed liked both boxes belonged to the
same guy or business. All the rolls looked almost the same on the edges and most rolls had this mark on several coins in each roll:



Anyone seen before?

I must admit I am discouraged by finding NO silver, and my brain is saying, "Well, that's it. You'll never find another, too many people know about it now." But I've seen so many of you bounce back after dry spells and I hope I will too.

I picked up $6 from a teller tray at a bank I had never been to before, found 1 66, but here is the thing; it appears to be 90% silver, it is not an S mint so it could not have come form any silver proof set ( no mint mark so it is Philly). Looked at the edge with high power mag glass (10x) and can see no evidence of it being clad. Is this possible?

I do agree that 22 banks for 1 40% was not the best use of my time. I usually pick up over $1000 in halves when I stop at this many banks. The extra rolls would usually cause me to have a better rate of return. Before every trip I check my odometer and check it again when I get back home. Then I calculate my gas mileage and try to estimate how much silver I would need to find to make the trip worth it. I don't take into account my time spent on the road, but I do factor in if I went through a drive through vs. eating at home. This trip was only about 48 miles total so I didn't have to get a ton of silver. Most of the time I break right around even, but the big days more than cover the bad ones.

Plus, every time I start to get frustrated, my brother calls me up and lets me know about some big score he just found. Like last week when he said he picked up four rolls and $4 in a tellers drawer and brought it home to discover it was over 90% 1965-1969. (Stupid brother)
