Yeah wish I had something, I have all from franklin to date, except 1970, and the 2000's I mentioned.

This is why banks get cranky at requests like that. We'd get a few hundred dollars at a time, and get a pretty decent ratio of silver, since were were getting cwr. |

My guess is that the banks feel that searchers are giving them the runaround. It would be like asking a supermarket to go through their backroom supply of Cheerios with a metal detector to find the boxes with Brass Bucks. Or perhaps more accurately, buying a case of Cheerios, taking them home to detect for Brass Bucks, then returning them to a different store, or returning them for a different case. |

Where are you located? I've had the same thing with my boxes this week. I've pulled probably 6 rolls of 2003-2005 NIFC from my boxes all in that condition.
Do you think that a company is buying them from the mint to replace the ones that are pulled, or someone dumped a lot of coins? Or maybe we just go to the same bank...

I like to edge-search my Cheerio's boxes looking for brass. Plus I find the nutritional information on the side a good "REED".

I think one of the big issues is that the banks have to PAY to order boxes in and then PAY to have the company bring back their loose coins as well. So they are paying the fees for each of us to enjoy our hobby.
Anything over $1,000 of halves a week is over the top to me and is giving the rest of us a bad name. Just my thought :)

First whole box ever (usually just loose teller coins) yields: one 1964, one 1967, and one 1976-S 40%.

wrestling: After doing about 5k in halfs for a few weeks now, I would actually agree with you. I've found that its hard to sort through them and dump them. I'm going to actually cut back to 1k a week, and if the bank orders extra I may pick them up.
Besides the fees, why do you feel that it give us a bad name?
Has anyone discussed the idea that it is technically our money, and therefore we can do what we like with it, and that bank's profits suffer very little compared to what they bring in? Just curious as to what people think about this thought.

i have had only 1 bank give me problems with buying/dumping for fees, Wells Fargo. And that is only 1 branch, all other branches don't have issues with it. They see me walk in and point me to an open teller immediately. I think it's all about establishing a good relationship with the employees.

This kinda feels like the question: "Do you feel bad about benefiting from people going through such hard times that they had to give up valuable coins at face value?". I feel that we are collectors and if the rules and fee schedules change significantly then we will all find something else that does not cost a lot but feels like has significance. We are not buying tens of thousand of dollars of dollar coins for the air miles. Banks are smart businesses and they will act in their best interest. Until it becomes unreasonably expensive, I plan to take advantate of my member advantages which were pitched to me at the time I opened my account, including no fee ordering for coins and no fee coin counter.

As for banks, I was really surprised that my second bank was willing to order them for me. It just so happened the day I was going to ask that the head teller was the one to wait on me. She said he had done something similar last December for another customer.
I have since ordered four more boxes and only returned a very small portion to the bank I ordered from. Of the $3000 total ordered, I have tried only to return a few hundred and I also try to spread out the timeline among branches.
Now, this being said, I am trying to figure out what to get Tina as a thank you.

I went to pickup my weekly box a few days late and was apologetic to the teller about having taken up the extra space in the vault. While I was talking to him, I noticed something glimmering in his try. I saw what I thought was a single silver half dollar. I asked "Can I have that one too?" He said sure and handed it to me with two quarters. When I got to the car, sure enough it was silver: 1966 in amazing condition! This is great considering that I regularly get skunked when driving to a bunch of banks asking for loose halves. How about that?! I don't make any effort at all and strike silver. It's in really, really nice condition too! I'll report back later when I go through the box!
