Hey we should start a thread for "half dollar marked coins" My boxes today had a few new ones, one was the "3 black line rim marker", and a new one the "green sharpie "JFK" written on the obverese guy. Also had the usual big black V on the bicentenial reverese mark. I also run into someone that puts numbers on the front real small, sometimes red, sometimes blue, dont know if they are marking box numbers or what.

 I get a lot of different marked coins. Maybe I'll post some pics of different ones from tomorrow's batch. |

No, the 40% halves continued through 1970.
Also, some 1976 (Bicentennial) halves were also of this composition.

In my list, I made a typo of 40% coins going into 1974. I meant to type in 1970 there.
It was simply a typo.

Yes,
I get quite a few in my area of NC marked 611. It is written on the obverse with a black, permanent marker.

Halfhunter, Our stories continue to mirror each other. I sure hope your skunk streak ends sooner than mine. On a side note, when I went to get my normal single box Tuesday, the teller asked if I wanted the old yellow/brown box or the new brown on purple-or-brown box (we debate the color). I chose the old one since I haven't found a single piece of silver in the newer boxes. Of course, blanked, and I mean truly blanked. Not even a beat up proof, error coin, or decent NIFC. Oh well, 3 more coming Thursday.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I know what to look for in my pennies, but on the halves no dice. I was ripping through rolls only looking for silver and it started to feel more like a job than fun. I went back through 2000 in halves and found 6 or so nifc, 1s mint, a couple from 87 and in the last couple rolls.....a '67.... I still seem to find more silver in dimes and quarters, but these are so much easier on the eyes!

Hey everyone!
I was just at a local antique mall and there was the inevitable coin booth. I got an 1987-s proof for $4.50. Is this a good buy or was it worth less than what I payed?

half hunter 1964 thats not a bad price its not entirely unreasonable plus its a nice coin and a rare year, yea my stories are the same after finally finding some silver, they had 1 box for me and it was filled yet again with the rims all marked horrible just horrible

Box 24 2nd box from local/state bank. Almost all this:     (speaking of marked...) then, the last few rolls, picked up: NIFC 2003 2005 2009 d  . only my 3rd 2009 in 24,000 halves Also, 1981 BU and 1979 BU with nice toning.  tomorrow 2 boxes coming. can't wait. |

Well, $1500 worth of halves searched so far and I've come up with 2 1968's and 2 1964's. Just over an oz of silver in all. Not the greatest, but enough to keep me going  |

bernie, yep thats the rim marks that I got as well, except the marks were all in black so annoying and very dissapointing
