Just added a 1986-P, 2011-D, and a 1967 to the 2002-D and 1964.
I have not found any S mints yet but am hopeful. Also still hoping to find my first double die or missing FG.

Finding that 1 stay silver is like winning a scratch off instant lottery! Keeps you going. Sometimes I don't know how some keep searching with no silver for boxes and boxes I have only had 2 no silver boxes. Most had 2 and my best was 4. So just enough to get another.

Rim searched my 3 boxes of halves last night. sigh....no silver. I just don't get it. How do I do so well and then go on a dry streak like this. That's a rhetorical question...I know how it happens. I'm just irritated. Guess I need to start a relationship with a new bank or CU.

When I get a box, I like to check the ends first. Then, I like to quickly weigh the rolls.
One of the first rolls weighed in at 260.4 g. The only other time I had this happen was with my previous 1964.
Sure enough, the next-t0-last coin in the roll was a toned 1964.
I think the 1967 came from a 259.7 roll.
Please note though that weights are not a surefire way to scan. I have had many a roll weigh 260 g or 261 g only to find an abundance of 1976 bicentennials.
Also, weights do not do anything to help reveal "S" minted coins or NIFCs. Neither do they do anything to help find double dies, offset backs, or missing "FG" coins. I simply use the weights as a screening process of sorts for evident 90% coins.

Got two Brink's boxes yesterday, first box saw a 67 on the end of a roll, found another inside the same roll'
Box 1 total: 1-64 90%, 10 40%, 3 NIFC
Box 2 total: 2-40%, 1 NIFC plus a 73 that could pass as uncirculated.

Hi all this is my first post.
I want to know what it means if there are marked coins in a bank box. Does this mean another coin roll hunter has searched the entire box? But the box is packaged up like a bank did it, not a coin roll hunter. Do people ever find silver or interesting halves in boxes where some coins are marked, or are they not even worth going through?
Part of what I'm asking is how does the bank make the boxes? Do they just take a box brought in by a coin roll hunter and repackage it coin for coin in a new box, or do they combine a bunch of coins and package those into a box?

wtcoinrollhunter, I've only done a few boxes but in one box that was almost entirely marked coins I found 1 silver and many 2000+ coins
To add to his question, are proof coins visible by rim searching?

Proofs are not completely visible by rim searching but you can sometimes find proofs this way due to how brilliant the edges are.

Ok, thanks, just finished the box and there was no silver but there were a couple late 2000's.
I am pretty new but having fun. My best find is a small $20 bag from a teller that had one 1964 and 14 1965-1969's! I have done two boxes now, one had 1 40% and several proofs, and the next one (with all the markings) had none. I have ordered some more boxes so we shall see. What do people look for besides silver, proofs, errors, late 2000's, and the ones with the mint mark missing (I think 71/72?)?

1-64P JFK.
My lowest weekly total in over 2 and 1/2 years.
Sign of the times I guess, but it still takes only one box to be that monster box!

I haven't posted my finds lately, so here are my finds in $3k worth of boxes. 72 - 40% 12 - 90% Out o f the .9 coins: 1934 Walker ( my first walker!  ) '46 Booker t. washington commemorative 2 Frankies (1954 & 1963) The rest were kennedy's. Today's box only got me a 1991 S, that was very toned. Almost copper in color. Edited by JJ650

What company (brinks, string&son, etc.) makes the rolls with the dark gold and white color? I got a box of those yesterday and.... 1987-d 1972-d no FG All the holes in my album except silver, 1987-p, and post 2002. Is this good? Thanks |
