Kenscott, don't get too depressed. I had a similar problem with a teller not long ago. She had a bad attitude, and it irritated me, too. I decided to ignore it and stay away for a while. I went back to the same branch a week later, and a different teller helped me. She was nice, and even sold me some silver.

Lonz, great find on the BU Ikes and halves. I've been finding Ikes lately, but nothing in that condition. The ones I get look like they've been left in the street.

Boxes 399-422

Very disappointing for a large buy.
Almost all redumps. The secondary vault boxes were worse than the first 20.
Did manage 2 unsearched boxes with tons of BU keepers (6 rolls).
Gonna try the large buy 1 more time this week, but from a different bank. $14K,if nothing comes of it, I think i'll be done with halves for a while.

M0nks,

I guess I will have to go to dimes now but it will have to be another bank. The dimes from my former favorite bank always came in clear rollers and I never found any despite the boxes I did search a few times.

I will try to search around and see if there is another bank chain in the area that will order halves or dimes for me. As for quarters, I have pretty much given up on those.

CPC24,

I appreciate your advice. The only problem is that the teller that ordered them for me was the head teller and the only one able to order them. So, a great hobby has just been killed unless there is another bank that will come to my aid.

Congrats to CPC24 and Earle on some great finds.

Bish, even though the mother lode wasn't there, you still found some great gems. That 87 you showed was gorgeous.

Don't you all wish we could go to brinks/loomis etc and say, "I'll take those 10 boxes in the corner with the dust all over em."

Any know what it looks like inside Brinks and others? Anyone ever been inside? Anyone ever try getting coins directly from them? I called Loomis once, and got the guy's name who arranges coin for businesses, left a message and he never called back.

Ken, you've done better than I have. I've never had good luck with boxes. Most banks here won't even order them. I've only been able to get a few, and they were all skunks. I go for loose halves and CWRs. 80-90% of the time they have nothing, but the other 10-20% make it worthwhile.

I always by CWR's. The best luck I ever had was when I went back to a dump bank and asked them about ordering me dimes if I wouldn't dump. They said yeah. As I was waiting, the teller next to me asked if I wanted some halves dollar rolls, she said she had 12 (ten I deposited) So I said sure, and sure enough, 6 Walkers, 28 Franklins, 6 '64 Kennedy. That was the best haul ever. Well, next to my roll of dimes :)

Bish, how do you get them to order for you like that? I have to have 4 banks order me 1000 at a time, but I get deliveries twice a week. Don't give up man. I haven't found one single one in the last 10 boxes, and the last I did find was a single 40%. Maybe we've all run the well dry.

Went into a branch I've never stopped at to buy a box of dimes. I asked if they had any half dollars or big dollar coins and the teller said no. She comes back from the vault and said she actually had $60 in halves. I took them. The rolls were all taped on the ends. In the past, when the rolls are taped, I have found some good stuff. Get to my car, first 40$ skunked. Next roll: 7 silver.

They are all really "sticky". I want to un-sticky them (not restore or polish them) because touching them feels icky. Any tips?

Try acetone if it is just grime from people handling the coins that should clean them right up. If that doesn't work check the forums for cleaning because there are plenty of threads on other products that will remove grime without damaging the coins.

Went to breakfast with my father this morning, and on the way back saw a credit union. After breakfast, I dropped him off and stopped at the credit union. They had $11 in halves. I bought them sight unseen.

Got, all BU:

2001 P x4
2001 D x5
2004 D x1
2004 P x4
2006 D 4
2006 P 3

Another bank had $1.50 in common halves, and another had $1.50 in common halves and 4 ikes in decent condition, but not worth keeping.

I love this sport.

got my 2 brinks boxes today, and only one 40%, I was dissappointed, because last week I had 3 enders, and 7 silvers, the coins were real similar to my big box, thought I was getting down in the pile, good, its took me 4 monthes to get back down to the good coins, they must of topped it off again, bummer, still gotta keep this small 2 box order though. thinking of adding to my garda order for friday, instead of 4 boxes doing 8, probually gonna hit a different branch, and do 4 and 4, hopefully land a mon, weds, thurs, pick up.
