JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Seel, you can get some good quality used ones for about $5k. I looked into it. I'll consider shelling it out if I get cut off from dumping in bags. I find more than that in silver every year...

YVA, that's no fun. The fun is in busting the rolls and pulling the silver out yourself. Why would you want to cut that part out? I'd prefer a rewrapper and I can bust the rolls myself. I'd blow out my bankroll to $15k or so, drop $5k on a rewrapper, and push through at least 20 boxes a day. I'd spread my operations out over a larger geographic area, and probably drive 2 hours a day to get to/from my hunting and dumping ground.

If anybody has any rich friends out there looking to invest $25k at 10% interest per annum, you tell them to come talk to me... I'll do the legwork of industrializing this little game we play and making some serious money off it.

Machine searching is not for me personally. I would rather take the time, find the silver and errors, and simply take the remaining halves back to the bank.

To everyone who busts the wrappers, I think this is quite counterproductive. Take a butter knife, unpry one edge, and then press the edge back down once you placed the halves back in the original wrapper.

For those just after silver, you know there is a fairly decent way of knowing if a roll has silver before you even open it. Silver rolls tend to have a different weight range. If I so wish, I can pretty much tell you if a roll has a 90% in it before opening due to weight alone. Problem is, you can miss some 40% coins if there are enough worn halves in the same roll. Also, you would not be finding proofs and errors if you did not actually open the rolls and look.

one of the guards told the gal at the bank that he has a detector that will tell him if the box has silver or not........... she asked him a bit more about it and he said he broke his.............. so anyway I have a pretty nice metal detector and I haven't tried playing with it yet but has anyone heard of anyone doing this before? sounds like a story but who knows, I do have a friend that has a detector that cost 8k maybe his could tell me a box has silver.

that's what I say too, I walk past my detector every time I carry in my boxes in and I've never even tried as I am certain that it wouldn't tell you anything, I like also that anytime you hear something like that the persons is broken. If he had one, and was somehow checking, or could check for silver, why would he be riding out in an armored car? I do know that some of the very high dollar detectors will give you more information like target composition to help you keep from digging "hot rocks" but they can even give you wrong readings.

Yvair, what does your buddy have? I have a mine lab gpx5k. Just got it and too much snow here to play yet. He have similar or different. Could try both if different.

he has the same GPX 5000 lucky sob dug a 3.5oz nugget the day after he bought it, he thought he hit on it with a whites GM3 a few day s before but didn't dig it, it was a couple feet deep the minelab showed a better signal so they dug it. first day with the GM3, he bought used, he hit a 1.6 oz nugget within 30 minutes on the clubs claim we belong to. he has been lucky ever since, he has a couple of claims of his own now, that were he found the 3.5oz nug.

anyway it will only take a few minutes to re roll a roll of halves with a silver in the middle and see what kind of signal I get. doubt I will find anything but if I do I will post it here.
