It's a "real" coin, but the process which caused it to become gold had nothing to do with the US Mint. Could have been originally a school project, a play plating exercise, or even a shyster "mint" add-on for selling face-value coins at a ridiculous premium.

you are 100 percent sure about that...because I put the dot on the back side in the eagle, years ago...and until tonite when I actually enlarged it...it looks to me like it is still gold...no way a school project had to be a pro

If you ask why I put that dot on it years ago...i took a hammer and nail and struck it..did not collect coins then and was gonna scrap it for for gold...never did though..didnt think it was real...but thanks for the info folks

Gold plating. When you struck it with the hammer the plating probally moved.

Compare the weight to a regular quarter. Solid gold would be significantly (almost 3x) heavier, but I suspect you will find little to no difference in weight. Gold plated coins are a very common tourist item--$0.005 worth of gold plating and you can sell it in a set for $5-10.

Most likely just plated lightly.

Quote: you are 100 percent sure about that I am 100% sure the US Mint cannot and did not do that. Nothing else is certain. And weight is probably immaterial - it would require scale resolution beyond the Weight Tolerance for the coin. If it were actually gold you'd notice the weight in your hand.

If the experts here with CENTURIES of combined experiance cannot convince you then try and find a jeweler or pawn shop with an xrf machine and it will tell you the exact metallic composition
