I found this penny today while digging through some change. My first thought was that it was a die clash, but if you look carefully at the front, you can see some of the letters of E Pluribis Unum on Lincoln's forehead. If it was a die clash and the letters were to be pushed through to the other side, the letters would show up below Lincoln's head. It looks like the reverse die was struck on top of the front face somehow, but not entirely. There is also the chip on the front and the fact that the back looks like it might have been struck with something stuck in the die, but I guess those two things could have happened after the mint.

This isn't a rotated die error, so that's not the reason for the E Pluribus Unum being on the wrong part of the front coin for a die clash to be the case.

Anyone ever seen anything like this or know what the error is called?

Welcome to Coin Community, bw_8. This is what we call a "vise job." Another Cent has been squeezed onto this one - you can see on the reverse where the clamping force was applied, and where the clamping damage is the greatest is where the transfer is strongest. The fact that the lettering above the Memorial on the obverse is mirror-imaged is confirmation.

Someone pressed another cent into it. You can tell because the design is incuse and the letters are backwards. Nice description stating what you are seeing for being a new member. You will fit in and learn a lot!

PMD. The reverse or, back of the coin, is evidence of the vice that manipulated this.

Welcome to the CCF :-)
