dosen't seem like a clashed die. seems like it hit something hard like a rock at high speed. maybe it fell out of someones pocket. still cool though.

Quote: I can see the date and the letter P but 180* flipped on revers side No, you can't. Your images are quite good enough for that to be obvious. There is only one possible place for the date to appear on the reverse - where it could have clashed onto the reverse die, around the rim a little below UNUM, and anywhere else you see a "date" is not what you think it is. And I've never heard of a Jefferson so strongly clashed that date digits transferred. These are fundamental truths, teachmind, and as many times as we tell them to you, you are refusing to listen.

Hi teach, Have a look at my 2006. I'm showing you the obverse and the reverse of my coin because it's important to note that my specimen shows witness marks on both sides of the coin. In some cases, coins will be minted using both damaged dies (anvil/hammer), but sometimes they take one out of service or marry it up to another mating die. Have a look at your coin; does the obverse have witness marks? On my specimen, the obverse looks like Jefferson has a mushed face (note the nose and lips). This would indicate a significant clashing event. Other higher relief areas are also 'shiny' due to the impact. On the reverse, you can see that the eyes are peaking over the bottom of the Monticello. Note the height on these clashed devices. They are much lower than the details on the Monticello. As the others have noted, the window where you suspect your 'eye' to be is one of the higher details of the coin. It would take an even more significant clashing event than the one my coin bares witness to. So I'm in agreement with our fellow enthusiasts; your coin took a hit in the window area that appears a bit like an eye. Coincidental I think. I hope these pictures help a bit!

Holy Toledo, coop. Never say, "I've seen everything" in numismatics. Can you imagine the noise that impact must have made? I bet the whole Mint heard it. CLANGGGGGGGGG! That's silly. They could have used the obverse to strike reverses afterward.

I don't see the witness marks on the obverse of your coin. What I see is a circulated coin with above average damage, grit & grime, along with some corrosion.
As the others have noted, this is not an error coin. Keep flipping; you'll find something eventually.
Coop - I've seen you post this beauty before. That's an amazing clash! I'm surprised one of the dies didn't fail catastrophically.
