Japan, 50 sen (0.5 yen), 1944, and featuring the infamous Yasukuni Shrine, a Shinto shrine in Tokyo that happens to include 1,068 war criminals in its list of venerated dead. This still causes serious diplomatic tension between Japan, China, and South Korea.

There are two versions of this note. The other has a pink underprint.

Just FYI: The lotus flower, at the top center of this note, is the key distinguishing mark of Japanese notes.

The flower at the top center is a chrysanthemum, the symbol of the Japanese Imperial Family, not a lotus.

lettow, you are correct of course, I'm not sure what I was thinking when I said lotus; must be the decaf coffee.
