The wife and I were heading out to an rv show this morning. I went online to check what time it opened, and saw there was a coin show going on at the same time. I grabbed up some Ike's I've been accumulating and off we went. Coins are not my wife's cup of tea so she dropped me at the coin show and went shopping giving me some time before we went to the rv show. I did an initial walk around and saw a complete graded 1896 set and knew one way or another I was leaving with an 1896 $1.00 note. While flipping through the last binder on the one dealers table I saw it. Now it's not the best note, but it's one I've wanted for a little while. I asked the dealer what he wanted and he said $125.00. I had 80 Ike's on me, I said what about 80 Ike's? He thought for a second as said sure. So I left with this.

This note is one of my favorites too Dave, I have yet to acquire one.
Looks to be in Fine condition to my eye. I don't have much experience in grading currency so I might be off in my assessment.
I think you got a great deal on it too.

Nice pickup. From what I can tell, it would probably grade VG/F apparent, stains, splits.

I recently sold this one (pictured below) for $65. As you can see it's pretty rough. You only paid $15 more for one in way better shape. I think you did great, and congrats on the first large note!

I thought I did ok price wise, I have seen worse priced higher. Now I have a placeholder that I should be able to get a few bucks more than I spent when I upgrade. Now let the note obsession begin :D

Fantastic note for a fantastic price! If I remember correctly, I probably paid around $300 for this one a few years back: The stains certainly detract from the value a bit, but overall you ended up with a nice note with a lot of crisp details and it's certainly worth a lot more than you paid for it. Congrats on your first large note! It can be a very expensive addiction, but a very rewarding one.

I understand that this new obsession can be costly. Besides coins and currency I also collect watches. It took a long time to get my wife to understand why I needed more than one watch, but now she sort of gets it. It's been much harder convincing her that a one dollar bill really does have more than a dollar value. I may have to resort to my watch trick, I got a Breitling she got jewelry from Tiffany & Co.
