I finally got one! It's a Series 2003 $10 bill, SN DJ01351184*. I wonder if I should keep it knowing it's my first star note, or spend it. Here are my reasons for each.

Keep- 1st star note, lucky find since older 10 dollar bills aren't too easy to come by

Spend- Average circulated condition, may not be worth anything over face value; I've put aside lots of notes so far, I'm gonna run out of money if I keep doing this!

What do you guys think?

Congrats! That's always fun to get a star from circulation. I've gotten plenty of $1 stars but never a $10.

If you can afford the $10, keep it!

It is pretty common (1,920,000 run size) but I'd keep it at least until you can replace it with a better one!

Alright, based on feedback from everyone I've talked to, I'll keep it. After all, it's an older design bill, and finding one at all usually requires you (or a cooperative bank teller) to look through a bunch of them! I forgot to say that I also got a crisp 2003 (different bill) and 1999, both $10 bills, as the tellers offered me all the old ones they had.

I'd keep it, personally.

It makes me sad, however, to hear a Series 2003 bill referred to as an "older" bill...

I still have my first star note. The condition is terrible, but that doesn't matter to me. Literally ripped, dirty, smudged with tape holing it together.

The middle note

Being your first STAR you should keep as long as you can anyway. I would keep a one more often the I would a ten.

Wow, I did not expect this topic to gain so much attention, thanks for all the replies! I have decided to use the bank I got this note from as my permanent pickup bank for exchanging large bills for smaller ones, since the tellers are very friendly and always willing to search their bills for older ones.

I keep ALL Star notes regardless of condition or print run... I got a ten and one dollar Star notes a couple of weeks ago from two different gas stations...

I probably have over $100 in Star notes (ones, fives, tens, twenties)...
