Today is my birthday, and to treat myself I picked up a nice Type III, Recessed Date SLQ. I just wanted to hear what the CCF Members had to say about her.

Thank you for your interest!

Happy birthday o! I agree with MS65FH.

Is that a die crack that I see? It looks like it's close to a retained.

No wear, strong luster, very few marks, and no-question full head detail. Can't see any less than MS-65 FH from PCGS.
Great B-Day present, congrats!

Where does he get these wonderful toys?

Slam dunk to me at 65FH, probably better but 66 is an order of magnitude more expensive. 65FH. In a new PCGS edge-view slab, 64FH wouldn't surprise me. They're alternately clueless and brutal these days, very little middle ground.

I'd want a clearer view of the upper right leg and right panel on the obverse to be more sure; there's things there which might lessen my opinion for a coin so obviously Gem otherwise.

You asked for opinions, so...

First impression = WOW!

But a question:
How does the weakness of the lowest star and "1" of the date
affect the numerical grade?
Does it really matter?

Now that you call my attention to it, I see what might be a corresponding area of weakness opposite that in the IT of UNITED. Maybe the slightest of die tilt, exacerbated by the rest of the strike being pretty much a hammer? The other side of the beading is certainly as strong as it gets. I can't really see it affecting the grade.
