Poll Question
I have to 1976 S mint sets one dollar has the copper tint and is a type I the other does not have the copper tint and is a type II. I was under the impression no silver 6 pc sets were made.

Poll Choices
 Do 6pc silver sets exist.
How can you tell the silver set from the copper nickle if it does not have the tint.

I thought there were 40% silver dollars/halves made for the 1776-1976 coins. I still need to brush up on my history but that is what I remember anyways.

The silver 1976 mint sets only came as a 3 piece set. Quarter, half and dollar.

I think you mean proof set, not mint set, if these are 1976-S.

It is possible that the dollar in one set is toned, looking more coppery.

Photos would help.

There could have been a packaging error but unless you crack the set out or do a tissue test you won't know for sure.

Just to be clear to the OP, you do not need to crack it out to do the tissue test.

Will be easier, just to post what was available

In 1975 and 1976, "S" mint Ike's were issued in
3 coin proof sets that had 40% Ike, JFK and Washington quarter.
3 coin UNC sets that had 40% Ike, JFK and Washington quarter

6 coin clad proof set, cent through dollar. 1975 has type One Ike
6 coin clad proof set, cent through dollar 1976 has type Two Ike

So if you have a six coin set, it is clad.
For it to be type One, it would be a 1975 clad proof set.

In 1975 set, cent, nickel and dime are dated 1975.

One more thing, ALL 40% silver Bicentennial dollars are Type I.
