Sorry for coin being in the mylar, but I don't want to remove it at this time.

I have not seen markings before as on this coin. The 1 has a small notch near the bottom of the coin.

The second 8 and the 0 have a strange both on the bottom of the digits.

Anyone seen this before on an 1880?

Let's wait for a better Indian Head guy than me, but I think you're looking at a Snow-4 variety here.

Those digits were broken on the digit punch. Initially, the second 8 breaks at the top and bottom, then the first 8 will break at the bottom and finally the 0 will break. Rick Snow lists all three broken digits as Snow 9. There are several different obverses impressed with the broken 880, as the digit punch was in service regardless of the degradation.

Thank you Indiancentvarieties. Appreciate your help. I haven't had a lot of success finding images of 1880 Snow-9, so this is helpful.

I'm still stumped on the notch in the 1. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, the 1 is broken as it was on the digit punch. The break occurred sometime from the breakage of the second 8 and breakages of both 8 digits.

You did not mention if the first 8 was broken. If not, I would certainly say your coin was one of the Snow 3 obverses.

Thank you so much Indiancentvarieties! I think the first 8 has a little breakage going on, but not as much as the 2nd eight and the 0. Here are some additional pictures. Again, thank you!!

The bottom part of the E in ONE on the reverse looks interesting. Is that a die chip?

I took some new pictures (man do I need work on my IHCs!!).

There really is no chip on the E of ONE. There is a tiny nick that looks like PMD.

There is a blob on the shield. It looks original to the coin. I tried to capture that.

Also I was able to take a nice close up of the date through my microscope.
