Another N-5 R.3. This is a great coin but not as good as the other one. Sharpness grade would be EAC 35 in my opinion. Coin has been cleaned and retoned as all large cents have been but this one looks cleaned so I will net grade it down to EAC 30.

You have a good eye, my friend. I agree this coin has been cleaned, so it needs to go back to the window-sill for a few months.

Regarding the attribution, I guess I had this one wrong as an N-4? I am not very good with Newcomb varieties so that would not surprise me.

On the N-4 the bottom curl is to the left of the left edge of the 1 and the star nearest the coronet is slightly to the left as well.

I also like this at VF35. Celticsoul...what tipped you off that the coin was cleaned? Was it the whitish film on the obverse?

The uncharacteristic halo around the profile. It's retoned nicely though. Still a great coin.

In my experience, a good sign of cleaning with copper coins are marked differences in toning, and specially when some of the lighter toned areas have a shiny red colour. This one had no red, but some suspicious lighter toning areas, which are really starting to tone over after lengthy exposure to a window sill. It is actually looking quite acceptable now, but it takes very long time.
