Hi All,

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I picked up this note from my local shop a few days ago.

Info-On-Notes-Required

I've done some research on Kinmen and its history etc. Learned that the Bank of Taiwan issued notes for use at remote outlying island use only (Kinmen, Dachen, and Matsu), and these notes are not for use in mainland Taiwan itself.

However, I wasn't able to find out why did the Bank of Taiwan do this? Is there a problem using their New Taiwan Dollar at these outlying islands? Are these island residents able to exchange their "local" money to the NT if they visit the mainland?

Appreciate any info and or links. Chinese language links are ok too :)

Thanks.

The assumption is that these islands would be the first targets of an invasion from the mainland. Therefore there is a desire not to have currency there which can then be passed in Taiwan. Same motive as the HAWAII issues from the USA.

I would presume that the locals with proper ID could have exchange these for Taiwan currency, and use it on the mainland.
