I was informed by a local Fed Ex outlet where I live that they do not ship coins/stamps and some other collectible item to USA from Canada. I finally had to change description and lower value for the coins I am sending to PCGS but what a hassle. Is there a better way to do this without being treated like a drug smuggler?

When I send coins, whether to the US or Canada, I always put down "copper planchets" down for the contents and never had a problem.

There is no insurance from either FedEx or CanadaPost when shipping coins from Canada to the US.

Personally, I use Expresspost and take my chances. If the coins go missing, I'm out of pocket the value of the coins.

Getting back to your question, the only way of insuring coins to the US is to use a third party insurance company.

I used to use 'ParcelPro'. They require you to ship FedEx overnight (very expensive) and they will insure your coins for any amount.

This way you can sleep at night knowing you will be totally covered if something goes wrong.

Then again, you might be up all night thinking about what you just spent on shipping and insurance.

Shafta9a....I agree, I always state 'metallic discs' when filling out the customs declaration.

This way, just in case the package is X-ray scanned, the 'discs' will not set off any concerns from customs.
