Does anyone know what this is? This 1997 D Lincoln Cent has what appears to be a dot between the United and States. I am new to error coins and my friend at the coin shop said he had not seen one like this before. Thanks you

There is also another one below the "T" on UNITED. Probably a gas bubble under the plating as mentioned.

Thank you all, I learned something new. It was a bubble and went away with very light pressure.
