Hello everyone!

I've found this VLDS 1957 D Jefferson nickel with a lowered edge to the right of the Monticello. Although I am pretty sure it is not an error and is the product of VLDS, What causes this?

In the first picture it almost looks like something is to the left of the mintmark. The harshness of the lighting in the other pictures removes this.

Actually the edge is not lowered. The area below the mint mark is raised because of die polishing that removed part of the devices in that area. It is also a VLDS die, a senior in its old age. Stuff happens when things get old.

Lol Coop, you have a pic for everything!

The more I look at my first image, the more I want to see something like this (excuse the low quality image used for the overlay, wrong year as well and the lack of time put into the production of this image):

Although, I know I'm just trying to justify things that aren't really there

Yep i'd say a VLDS . Please change out the dies folks (mint-employees) us coin collector hate these bad strikes !! But, to answer your question some more. The die is just worn out and the design is not nearly as good as it was. So, the coins struck late in a die's life will look bad and will be lacking details !! What happens to a car tire when it's near the end of it's life and the tire traction is almost gone ? You got it and doesn't give good traction anymore. It just can't
