I recently received three years worth of blue Ike's (thank you GR58) and now I got the fever for Ike's. I love the bigger dollars but the dilemma is I love dansco albums but still the blue Ike's are still in the ogp wrapping... Is it better to leave them in it or take it out to put in an album? jbuck help! Thanks guys

Maybe they can fit in a currency album! I think if you want some for a dansco you should keep those ones in the OGP and buy loose ones for your dansco. Or you can cut them out and make ours more rare!

I hate cutting up sets, but if you want high grade coins that's kinda what you have to do. What I did was go through my coin dealers cheap trays or coin dealer books at coin shows until I found the individual coins I wanted at the quality I wanted. I felt better about buying a coin that had already been cut out of his home instead of cutting it out myself.

I vote for taking them out and placing them in the Dansco album. It's not about the packaging, as far as I'm concerned. It's about the coin(s). Packaging just gets in the way.

I agree with Darth! A Dansco full of Ike's is a beautiful sight to behold!

Quote: Is it better to leave them in it or take it out to put in an album? Better in what way? Value? Investment? Appearance? Other? That's up to you to answer. Once you answer that question your further action will be rather obvious.

Hmmm... And I am most of the time one who fully agrees with buy the coins not the plastic/capsules. Ike's are just newish to me so thought I would ask. Like it was said it seems the ogp isn't anything special... Yet anyways. Well first I gotta get my Dansco :)

Although now I understand. It appears that the packaging won't be worth much numismaticaly but in regards to just the historical sense it may if many open em up and few are left. Men just adds to my dilemma ;P

Quote: You're correct - the packaging doesn't matter - but it soon will. They were saying that twenty years ago when I was filling my Dansco. Maybe in another twenty years it will matter. For what it is worth, I still have all the original materials, including that for the brown box proofs. So even though they are removed, a future generation will know from whence they came. My recommendation then is to carefully remove them from the packaging. Keep everything.

That is what I was thinking. I wouldn't by any means just trash the OGP after I removed them. And like stated, at least for the history/educational purposes I would still have the packaging to see what it came in before but with the coin in an album. I believe that is what I am going to do. Rejoice, those who are keeping theirs in for three more are about to be "desecrated"! Thanks all for your opinions.

If you really dislike removing them from the OGP, then leave them there and go out into the marketplace and buy pieces that have already been removed from the holders.

I am happy you like the Ike's
Even more happy that you are thinking of doing a Ike Dansco. I have that album, and sometimes think about doing another.
As for breaking the Ike's out of the OGP, I can only suggest what I do.
Anytime I am putting album together and can get better grade coins out of sets, I break them out.
Well most every time, I don't break Morgan GSA dollar out.
With the Blue and brown Ike's they seems to be available , so I don't think we are at the point yet ....where they are trading higher than the raw coin.
You can always start the set, and when you get it filled to the point where all you need are the three Ike's I sent you ... Then you can decide if you want to break them out.
