What kind of grade would you give this Morgan?

I'll have to say high AU, with the apparent wear on the hair. But could just be a poor strike.

Slider. A TPG would wimp out and AU58 it. I believe it Mint State. The fields are actually quite impressive - this coin is not far from the original strikes. Even still has original mint wash under the chin.

Which is a cool thing, because it is plainly an EDS of VAM-1B, the most recognizable 1921-D VAM. Yours has only the very first of the die cracks, from the looks of it.

It's a "Gateway VAM," one both extremely popular and rather common so it tends to drag people into VAMming. It's available throughout the stages of die state - people actually collect it by die state. As such, it'd probably carry a bit of a premium - nothing huge - if sold attributed.

Dave...thanks for taking the time to explain everything about this Morgan. I really learned a lot. It's unbeliveable the amount of knowledge you have with VAMing.

It's not like I'm pulling this from memory.

The clinical term for my memory is "sucktacular." Stuff you would retain, I have to re-learn every time I see it. I probably can't identify more than 100 VAMs from memory. I get by on what has been forced, over the years, to become brutally efficient research skills and deductive reasoning.

That said, this coin is one of that 100.

Man what happened to her? I don't see any real signs of circulation but with all those dings I wonder if she would come back ms? Also has some nice large feeder marks. I feel her destiny was pre ordained from day 1

Assuming that it's MS, what causes the flat hair that looks like wear?
