@thedollarman I am not sure what showed up in the photo there, but I really don't see it in person, there is a 1mm ding staight under the D but nothing extending from there, must just be lighting out to the edge...

On my screen it looks very much like a second lamination. Had you not said that, I'd have thought it was. It's pretty clear in the image. I can even see it extending into the rim.

Definitely a cracked planchet at the Y.

I collect Roman coins. In this areas of numismatics cracked flans are common.

The Peace dollar here has all of those characteristics that you see with cracked flans in Roman coins.
I would guess the reasons for the cracking compared with Roman coins are quite different, however.

In the case of the Peace dollar, I guess that the crack is a symptomatic of a foreign (liquid?) inclusion in the area of the crack. The liquid has long since dissapeared.
A vertical, rather than a horizontal lamination.

Interesting and unusual error for a modern coin.
