Looks like the Large 7/6 S-273. This date was the purview of Sheldon not Newcomb. Hence the S and not N number.

I think it's pretty tough to use the Sheldon and Newcomb books, and I have several different editions o each. I prefer the Bill Noye's books or Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of US Cents for the early dates, John Wright's book The Cent for the middle dates and Bob Grellman's book for the late dates, though on the late dates I still have a real hard time attributing any coin below VF+ grade.

Breen's Encyclopedia is available online at PCGS site for free under resources-books.

Thanks westcoin, think I will download the Breen book as you mention. I met Walter Breen in 1976 at a Long Beach CA Coin Show, he was an odd guy.

Well that's a nice way of describing Walter, I suppose.

I met him a few times too, as a YN at coin shows. Odd looking for sure, long fingernails and toenails, (grossly so), sandals and wearing a loud Hawaiian shirt with crazy hair and beard. His past (well documented) was also odd to say the least.

I don't agree with some of his research (especially on proof mintages), Walter had a tendency to make up facts and figures if he wasn't sure or couldn't find the answer he was looking for. Still all his odd and criminal habits aside, he was a numismatic knowledge powerhouse and genius.
