I found this metal detecting the other day (which explains the scratch in the top right hand corner). I was wondering what details grade it would receive and how much it would be worth.

I'm going to assume you mistyped your title as you can plainly read on the coin that it's a 50 cent piece.

A very nice piece for a metal detector find.

High 'fine', low 'very fine' grade most likely.

About how much would this coin be worth? I am more of a US coin collector so I have no idea what its worth.

Always wanted to get into metal detecting as a hobby, but my bad back keeps me away from it.

Any who, wish you all the luck on your future digs!

Nice find!
With the spotting, I'd reckon FMV to be about $80.

Thanks everyone for the help, I was shocked to find this on US soil. I live in WA state so close to Canada.
And aardspeed couldn't use the screwdriver cause I was in clay (probably why it was preserved so well with little scratches!)

Nice find metal detecting. Both Canadian and U.S. Coins circulated quite freely in Washington , Idaho ,Montana ,Oregon ,BC, Alberta. When I had my coin shop in Victoria BC bought lots of Barber and Seated coins.

Canadian coins still circulate here freely. I coin roll hunt and find tons of Canadian coinage, sometimes a make money sometimes I lose money based of the economy.

Torgemco to answer your question I use:
Garret AT Pro (had a pioneer 505 which I found my Walking Liberty half dollar)
Garret At pro pin pointer (if you buy it from kellyco you get a hand shovel included)
That's what I use, but I'm looking to upgrade my shovel.
