Hi everyone.Found this in a joblot. You know the ones you see but put in a bag for later to look at if ever lol. Well today I did look and to my surprize I noticed strange markings.Like chop marks. But because it covers the whole coin I am now thinking it could be an old foreign coin re-used. Or if the mint was doing private work perhaps one of the coins got jammed and free'd itself on the farthing run. Sorry if the pics don't show much. Taking into account how old this is and my poor photography. Also the nature of the coin it was very difficult to even get the farthing lettering to show properly. Any ideas about this .As ever I am most appreciative for your wise words of wisdom. Thanks

I'm afraid I'm not seeing anything in those pics that can't be explained by either "corrosion" or "damage".

To the best of my knowledge, The Royal Mint didn't "re-use" foreign coins as blanks in this way. Nor did the Mint "do private work", not for medals as small as a farthing, anyway.

Agreed the coin has suffered but those are symbols . Look on the right hand side of the bust and the last letter of georgivs. the circle just to the left of his nose is the inner bloom of some flower. I blew it up but it has had a negative effect.Need someone who can read chinese or maybe old indian . Perhaps they can make sense of it. There's just not enough coin to capture. Thanks for reply

The parallel lines across his visage give an impression of deliberate defacement. It's hard to tell from these pictures, but the mark high on the neck looks to me rather like an eagle. But on a farthing, any such chops or counterstamps would have to be unusually tiny, and all such here seem to be uniformily so. Not to mention that there's almost no justification for doing either to this denomination. I think this is likely a case of somebody just fooling around with a coin (been known to happen).
