I went to my normal bank today to exchange 20's for 10 and 5 dollar bills, but after what happened, I think I'm gonna make the other bank (the one I refer to as a different branch, it's only 5 minutes away) my go-to bank. The teller I'm good friends with wasn't there, and the one I spoke to wasn't very accommodating. I asked, as usual, if she had any older design 5 dollar bills, and she went through them, but was very hasty in doing so, so I have a feeling she may have missed one or two. I think she just wanted to hurry up, which disappointed me considering the bank wasn't very busy today. Needless to say, I'm sticking to the other branch to do my banking there, even though it's 5 minutes further away. Anyone else have issues, major or minor?

You got treated better than I usually do at my bank. And that's why I have been slowly moving to another bank altogether.
I once asked for a roll of quarters for the tollway and was told: We don't do that.
Huh? That's right, I couldn't get a roll of quarters.

Quote: Anyone have issues with tellers? Sounds like the teller had a problem with you. It couldn't be further from the teller's job to pick through the drawer for goodies for you. It's a bank, not a hobby shop.

Quote: It's a bank, not a hobby shop. Bank = Coin collecting as HobbyLobby = Modeling. Just saying, every coin in our collection (with the exception of coins bought from any mint directly) has been in a bank at one point.

Just saying, every coin in our collection (with the exception of coins bought from any mint directly) has been in a bank at one point. Sorry, this post makes no sense whatsoever. I repeat, it's NOT the teller's job to pick through the drawer for goodies for you. Never was, never will be. Instead of complaining about the ones that don't, how about just being grateful for the ones that do? Would you expect the cashier at Burger King to do it? It's no more the bank teller's job than the BK cashier.

Never was, never will be. pawns did you even read the first post? nowhere did he ask the teller to pick through her drawer for him. all he asked was if she had any older design bills. the teller then hastily looked through the bills. it sounds like the teller had the problem. what the teller should have done is given him the fives then looked through the rest of the bills since they were not to busy. pawns when you go to the bank and ask for 5 twentys the teller has to pick them from the drawer so you are technically having the teller picking through their drawer for goodies or if you trade in a ratty bill you are doing the same thing. I would suggest pawns that you stop using cash if you have such a problem with it we all will be better off without you.

Yeah, tellers should just take all their money out of the till and let us pick through it, in recognition of how much we make their lives easier.

It's not the tellers job to cater to collectors requests. They are there to cash you check, take your deposit, and make change orders for BUSINESS customers per bank rules. Anyone ever read the fee schedule you agreed to when you opened an account? Most charge for coin orders, counting coin, deposits larger than a certain amount, etc. However most tellers look the other way unless it comes down from corporate as to why they are ordering boxes of halves weekly. However if you are a regular customer and are friendly bring them donuts and pizza then everyone in the bank knows you and says hi whenever you walk in and even sometimes offer to help carry your boxes of coin out to your car Some people don't like there job or customers who make their job more difficult. It sounds like you just ran into the wrong teller on the wrong day. If the rest of the tellers at that branch are more than accommodating to your requests then just try to avoid getting stuck with that teller.

I usually side with the collector over teller in most searching disputes, but I have to agree that it's probably not good etiquette to ask a teller you don't have a relationship with to search through their bills and only give you old design. Maybe just buy a strap worth and move on to next stop.
I'm not a bill hunter, but I've been at banks and have seen tellers get excited when a customer they know walked in and they had an old 50 or 100 waiting for them, so what do I know... Maybe tellers generally have an idea what's in their drawer.
