The Omnibus spending bill in the next day or so he will make the 2009 mint and Proof sets grow.

At least 36 coins for the mint set and 18 for the proof.

Mint set.
8 cents, 2 nickels, 2 dimes, 12 quarters, 2 half dollars & 10 dollars.

The bill not only gives DC and the territories there own quarters but it returns IN GOD WE TRUST to the obv. or rev. of all dollar coins. Plus $555 billion in other spending.(lottsa pork)

Thank goodness we got important things like quarters for the territories figured out. Now if anyone in Washington will figure out a way to keep us from running trillions of dollars in debt each year would be nice.

I proposed a solution at a Christmas party last week...

Fire everyone in our Federal Government.
Repeal every law passed since the 1st Congress.
Publish copies of the US Constitution everywhere (Online and Print) for maximum penetration.
Hold special elections then make all elected officials swear in their oath not only to uphold the Constitution but that they have read it!
Make them carry a copy of the Consitution with them at all times.

Not a perfect plan, but a start, no? BTW, I don't drink... I came up with that one all on my own!

Now an effort to keep myself on the coin-related topic...

This "coin set bloat" is discouraging me from rebuilding a proof set collection. (I cracked open my almost complete 1969~1987 proof set collection a long time ago to fill my albums; although I still have a couple of Prestige sets intact). You might see where I am heading with this. I have read here where those who desire "completeness" feel a little "forced" by this.

Also, it seems, the whole "In God We Trust" motto location controversy will never go away until they move it to the face. IMHO, a bad decision, partly because people seem to misunderstand the motto to begin with.

While the concept of pork barrel spending rubs me the wrong way as well, I have to wonder if we are getting worked up over the wrong thing. According to the news this spending bill contains 15 BILLION dollars worth of pork barrel spending in it. Sounds really bad doesn't it? But when you compare it to the 3 TRILLION dollars worth of spending in the budget, it comes to a half a cent out of every dollar the government spends. Cutting ALL of the pork barrel out of the budget really wouldn't affect the tax rate at all. The real problem is getting the NON-pork spending under control.

Nice yes, but difficult. So rather than do the difficult jobs they are paid to do, they fill up a lot of their time with a lot of "make work" bills. That way they can point to "how much they got done" while not actually doing any of the work they SHOULD be doing.

They did move it to the obv. The bill specifically says that IGWT is to be put on the obv, not "obv or rev"

The bills says....

`(F) INSCRIPTION OF `IN GOD WE TRUST'- The design on the obverse or the reverse shall bear the inscription `In God We Trust'.'.

Thanks for the vote! And I am old enough to be President by a three year margin!

Regarding the Motto, I was trying to say that this will always be an issue until Presidential dollar Coins are minted with the motto on the obv or rev as opposed to the edge. And this bill won't make that possible until the President signs it (or congress overrides his Veto). It will probably happen. Looking back at what I wrote, I can see how that intent might have been missed, so I apologize!

If a majority of the people knew how much money the earmarks (pork) cost them, and what the money was going for, there might well be a revolution. But, ignorance is bliss.

Oh, I know, and it keeps me awake at night! I pray the people become aware of it and elect real change. It seems that our "representatives" only look at a Bill to see if his or her particular piece of pork is in it, ignoring the possible damage the other pork may cause!

Well then....... I feel a little better about going " Presidential dollar Crazy" with this first year !!
So, the first two years will have "IGWT" on the edge (2007 & 2008)....... that's grrrreat !

My crazy prediction: You'll win if you hoard 2009+ in MS conditions! Everyone else will hoard the 2007~2008 expecting them to be more valuable, ensuring there will be plenty of high-grade specimens. The 2009+ will circulate more (less hoarding by the masses) and your hoard will represent the surviving high-grade population! Of course, this all assumes we kill the dollar bill to get the dollar coin to circulate in the first place! Otherwise, methinks a strong majority of all issues will survive the years as high-grade!

Well .......to cover all bases.......despite the high mintage number which ensures the low value of all of them at any time !! ....... I figure to be set up with the first three years quite well so that no matter what happens with their value I'll be good ........ and everyone will have them anyway despite "IGWT" location so.......
But I'm not going to pay much attention to them after the first three years. I'll still maintain a couple of books with uncirc's and probably get a "D" roll of them for even money at my local bank (packed by the mint unopened/unsearched) so that in the 16 year Presidential dollar Program somebody 10-12 years in to it who wants to "start" it.........i can supply them (as well as millions of other people could on ebay !)
And you know what .....even if the value never appreciates much at all...even 30 years from now........ IT'S A GOOD SAVINGS PROGRAM FOR MONEY !! HA HA LOL This way I won't spend money and can save it (hard to do these days)
However little they were worth before (always minimum of $1.00) Taking "IGWT" off of the edge WILL make them a tiny tiny bit more valuable....1st, 2nd, or 3rd year......... right ?

The dollar coin is never going to be a popular circulating coin....... the Sac's, Suzy B's, President....... It'll never, at least in our lifetime, take the place of the paper dollar either....... hummmmm....... at least i'll have some money put up for years to come that I won't be spending !

Maybe the absolute worst case, they are worth face value and you will lose money over time as inflation affects the dollar's buying power.

Not-so-absolute best case, they are ignored for a long time by most collectors. You will have a good collection of higher grade pieces. If the paper dollar is removed, they will circulate. If not, the mint might end up melting them for other denominations and you still have a huge hoard and the first years might see a small premium for being "different" than the rest of the series.

I think ultimately, if you like them and appreciate the significance of them changing the design, and eventually give some to your children/grandchildren as you tell them stories about our country and the political controversies of your time... well, then that is priceless!
