It Depends....
Assuming a basic machine in the $150 to $250 range

If you just mean Clad Coinage to the value of the machine I would say about a year of hunting 3 to four times a week at an hour a time. But this depends on your finding good hunting areas.
If you count jewelry then it could only be a week or two.
I have found 5 James Avery Charms and 1 Bracelet to date. If you go by their retail price they would just about pay for the detector themselves but silver weight is only a few dollars.

The detector that I use was well ahhhhhh a bit spendy ,, but it was purchased more than 12 years ago . at about $650.00 its equivalent today is between 9 and $1100.

I paid for my machine in the first 2 years counting just gold and silver finds of all kinds . Including gold nuggest which I have found a few with my machine .

and I'm still finding gold ,, check the cross in the other thread ,, 5 grams of 14k.

Not bad for a couple of minutes in the right place .

I've been working on it for 4 months and I am about halfway from paying it off. That's with just the coinage that was found. Not counting the jewelry. If I have another 4 months like the first 4 I will have it paid for. I average about 2 to 4 hours a week.
