I know the prefix represents the district that the bill was printed for. The numbers speak for themselves. Now we come to the suffix A - Z and the gist of my question. I believe that the suffix A is the first series printed for that district. So bill 00000001A was printed well before 00000001Z. Based on this wouldn't bills with the suffix A be more preferable those with the suffix Z.

I hope that this isn't a rhetorical question.

For the Series 2006 $100, for example:

Reserve District B:
Print Run 1
HB 000 00001 A
HB 512 00000 A

Print Run 2
HB 512 00001 A
HB 160 00000 B

So, you are correct on how the suffixes work.

However, as to desirability, it depends on the collector. Some people collect by both Reserve District and Print Run, whereas others collect by Reserve District alone. I, personally, collect by District and FW/DC printing locations, and skip the print runs...there are too many for my taste. Thus, from where I'm concerned, if someone is selling a $5 with suffix A for $100, vs one with suffix Z for $10...I'll go Z without a second thought.

Thanks, Groszy, I've always wondered that too.

It really gets expensive when at the $10 level though. At that point and above series, district, FW/DC is sufficient for me. Below that level one from each suffix per series, district, and FW/DC isn't that too expensive.

Of course, best example rule rules.

In a perfect world where you had enough funds to save whatever you wanted would you still take a $10 suffix Z over a $100 suffix Z. And what is the logic behind your original line of thought?

@ghostrider, I believe Groszy was saying he doesn't care what the suffix is since he doesn't collect that way, and a $10 Z over a $100 A is thus a no-brainer. (You typed two Z's up there)

If it were a matter of a $10 Z vs. a $100 Z from the same series, district, FW/DC then it would be a matter of note condition.
