A friend of mine found this while working in her garden. Any estimation on it's value?

Wow! Looks like it was dropped in mint state, but heavy verdigris.

Its a tough date, but its in really rough condition. I would think $50-$75 maybe a little more. Corroded coins are tough to price. I had an 1870 and an 1872 that were UNC corroded and they sold for $175 for the pair.

Personally, I'd clean it and it would sell really nice on an auction site, mention it's cleaned of course. Jeff

Still $50 easy I would think. It was in nice condition but it's been in the ground a long time and looks it. But cleaning will not help. So don't do that.

Try a dip in acetone, then verdi-care, don't scrub it!! It's a great find for such a hard date to dig out of the ground.

Maybe there are more old coins in her garden. I can't believe that IHC came out of the ground in that great condition. by rights it should have come out corroded. full liberty ? and I think there are 4 diamonds showing. that's crazy good.

I agree with Fayette1800 this coin was dropped in brand new condition in 1869 by someone that probably got in trouble for losing a 1 cent coin..
