I am a gymnastics coach, and I am visiting Des Moines, Iowa for Nationals this weekend. after competition today, the father of one of my gymnasts gave me this dollar when he was told I collected coins. He is a salesman, and used it as his card protector while playing poker. So, tell me about it...grade, value, etc. Phone pic, so sorry if not the best.

I'm thinking F15, a remarkably high grade for the price.

Honest F15. No major issues. Retail value, $30 or so. I wish I could run into some people giving out free Morgans that nice. ;) It's one of 16.8m Morgan silver dollars minted in Philadelphia that year, and it's fitting that it came from a poker player as a lot of circulated Morgans came to us by way of Nevada casinos. Keep it for the great story behind the coin!

Honest wear and surfaces don. He gave you more than a chunk of silver. It's literal history of the american old west in the palm of your hand. The silver came from the Comstock load in northern Nevada and most that were in circulation like yours circulated in pioneer old west towns as they were more about paper bills on the east coast. If you tried spending a morgan in turn of the century new York they would probably take it but give you a funny look kinda like spending an ike today. Conversely 8f you tried spending paper dollars in the old west the same look was given as spending a morgan on the east
