I've been pulling quite a few 70-S cents from circulation, but I'm losing my eyes trying to scrutinize the small dates from the others (if any SD even exist). If you've found some in circulation, could you post them here? That would be cool!

Well, that explains it...I don't have any SD But now I know what to look for--that's a big help, thanks!

Get em, Rick. I wasn't ready for that last thread to end. Since we are at it, what have you decided, large or small? Kurt, that truly is a very good comparison. Metalman's example has a lot going on and has been discussed previously to no resolve as I remember. I have been looking for a small date in circulation and have had no luck. Bought one awhile back just to have an example. Jim

Thanks everyone! I find a 70-S in every other roll, so I'll keep looking for now. Finding one would be a lot better than buying one. But what I cannot find are P-cents from 1995 onward--are they more common back east? I'd really like to find a Wide AM sometime of any date.

The P cents are distributed east of the big muddy the D cents west ,,which also accounts for the sometimes huge disparity in mintage numbers.
but then many of the Philly cent coins are actually minted at west point ,,but cannot be seperated from the philly cents they all look alike .
Im not sure if that is still going on but it used to be and may still be .

Thanks Metalman--I guessed as much because they're quite scarce here. I should try swapping a box of pennies with someone back east who wants to search for S-cents from the 60s-70s.

Yep,,we get way more S mint coins on the west side even though after all these years they have distributed throughout the country .

Metalman - Your 1970S is a damaged (machine doubled) large date. The crease says it all.
Furthermore, the Mississippi river is a very rough dividing line, but isn't really accurate. The true dividing line is more closely represented by a N-S line through the US that runs through Detroit. All of Illinois and Indiana are in D mint territory, as is all of Mississippi and Wisconsin - all of which are East of the Mississippi river. I have noticed a better mix of both in Tennessee and Kentucky. Virtually no P mint in Missouri, but Minnesota has both, as does Arkansas.

Really ! the 9 is pointed not squared off , and even the crease does not cut at a diagonal through the 7 it is square to the leg and does not match the photo of the large date .
Maybe you might like to see it in hand the way I can before you become dogmatic on its characteristics ?
and before becoming offended that I have replied as I did ,,Im open to this coin being either a large or a small date it really does not matter which ,, I just would like to understand why it does not match either one as it should .
There are also characteristics which did not capture well or at all in the photo's .
Indiana must be a split state ,,I get a lot of my philly coins from there .always nice to add some info though .
