I have no problem with the XF40, maybe as high as low AU. I'm ignorant to the Snow varieties, but they should be pretty easy to research.

There are many Snow varieties for this date but we would need larger pics to make a determination. Is there something in particular that makes you think this is a Snow variety?

Larger photos would be great for the grade and variety.

Very nice... definitely looks to be in XF condition and nicely struck as well. As mentioned above, larger photos are needed to determine any varieties.

Ok. I will try to get better pics. I will also look for a variety in hand while I wait for my dad to come home from work with his camera phone.

trying to re-learn my grading skills and acquire new ones.
Why do you think it is cleaned?

There are several reasons that I believe the coin has been cleaned. The first one is the fact that the coin is very dull and looks sort of dusty. The second is the color patterning. The blueish high spots on Liberty and the blueish carbon spots around the lettering on the obverse lead me to believe it's been cleaned in the past. The overall color itself is a bit off. Determining that the color is off is something you can't learn from a book either. You just have to look at a lot of Indian Heads to form a sense of what's natural and what's not.

tusen takk. Now I'll take the long weekend to pull out my buried Indian Heads and start calibrating better.
I tell people all the time that you cannot identify the UNusual unless you know the usual. Seems to fit here, too.

I'm just the opposite, to me this coin has original surfaces. Just my opinion but I would bet money on it.

For what it's worth, I don't think it's cleaned but looks like what I call "album toning" John1
