Greetings everyone,

Still a relative newcomer to the numismatic world, and have had a couple of questions answered here earlier, much appreciated! After a bit of a break, have been poking around my change jars and came across a blackish 1964 nickel.

I did do some research here, and it appears that the main reason it is black, especially since it is not a '58 or '59, is likely because of post-mint environmental damage. Including for example roasting on a stove and dipping into cold water, from one of the threads I found!

So can someone confirm for me that PMD is indeed the most likely cause? Given also that lighter spots can be seen on the obverse. Darkening due to non-standard Copper-Nickel ratios are what is needed to officially be an error coin, correct?

Pictures below, with a regular 1964 nickel for comparison:

Send it in to a TPG.
They'll say the same thing the other two responders said -- except it'll cost you a bunch of money.

Thank you all, filed away!

So far my main expertise with pennies is on how to pinch them, especially in places like New York, but thanks to this forum, hopefully over time that won't be the only one!

Here are some I pulled from the ground. Yours is darker but a ground coin just the same (or similar).
No I didn't find the War Nick in the ground. I pulled it from a fellow's hand at the grocery store the day I took this photo.

A colorful collection koinpro! So if I'm correctly applying my lessons learned, this 1990 greenish dime has also been most likely buried, correct?
