Can someone please tell me what the letters LCW mean/stand for in this coin grade? I'll assume that without it the coin is worth substantially more $? I just sent NGC an 1870 Canadian 50c but have no idea if it's an LCW or not since I don't know what the heck that means!

On an L.C.W. coin the letters L.C.W. are on the bottom right of the neck of the queens bust. They are obviously not present on the no L.C.W

The initials stand for Leonard C. Wyon who was a master designer/engraver.

Yes, no LCW is the rare variety. See http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1870-1901

Thanks folks! Hope I sent off a "no" rather than a "with"!
