It's been interesting to see what different lighting is needed to show copper versus the silver and gold I am more familiar with.

edweather, that's what I'm thinking as well. I too am trying to learn about "copper" specifically. This is hard! The more you look at past/present auctions of PCGS/NGC coins, the more you realize that the majority of stuff out there has been fooled with! Cleaned/altered color (see my thread here: https://goccf.com/t/230180 That coin has been in my safe since I bought it in 1977! really! And it's altered color? I was stupified. I would love for someone who grades for a living to tell me what he or she sees that causes copper so much trouble! Since we're on the subject of IHCs, what do you all think of the surfaces of this coin? I ask as it seems pretty shiny to me. Quite unlike the OPs coin:

Man ryne, those letters are making me dizzy when I zoom in. Is it possible an acid or other chemical made it slightly smooth and shiny? That line on the cheek sas possible liquid touch to me

Cascade it's still a cool coin no? You see the doubling?, in "UNITED STATES" ? And a big gouge under the "T" in STATES? but yes; something's wrong w/ the surfaces or so it seems.

To me it looks like the op's coin has been harshly (chemically) treated/cleaned; pick an adjective. See what I mean? it's hard to put your finger on what to call/say about most of these coins! I hate it. And graders can't/won't tell you all their secret "tells" as that's just giving ammunition to the fakers! Catch 22.

1907 XF-45 cleaned. 1886 T-1 AU-50 cleaned, retoning and light scratch. Doubling is Longacre doubling.
